Neutralization, EPD, NAET, quercetin?
Has anyone tried neutralization shots, EPD, or NAET treatments for food intolerance? If so, what was your experience?
Has anyone used quercetin? If so, how much did you take? Did it help?

Jean,
Thanks for your input. I can understand your skepticism. I would probably try the same approach of just avoiding my triggers if I had only a few intolerances.
My intolerances are so wide-ranging and I am down to 101 lbs. now. So I am very motivated to find effective solutions.
I'd been wondering about these approaches, and then, synchronisictially, I took my husband for a papimi treatment at a chiropractice office, to facilitate his healing form the knee surgery. We haven't been there for ages. I had a papimi too. PAPIMI induces negative ions into the body at the cellular and sub-cellular level. The negative ions give the cells energy which may help healing them faster than usual. It feels so healing!
When Dr. Weck heard my story, he told me how difficult it is to recapture lost foods without retraining the immune system. He encouraged me to explore these allergy elimnination approaches. He's had significant results with some of his patients. I trust Dr. Weck so I figure, why not give it a try. I have an appointment next week. I have nothing to lose and every thing to gain. I will let you know how it goes.
Be well, Celia

Celia,
I believe that another member, ronipow, tried all of those treatments, for her 17 year old daughter, without any benefit. Like you, her daughter seemed to be sensitive to many, many, food items, based on tests of all sorts that she found on the internet. To my knowledge though, none of the treatments ever provided any significant relief. She hasn't visited this site since last September.
My opinion, (and this is just my opinion, mind you), is that she never gave any diet trials sufficient time to give definitive results, (many of the programs she pursued, promised results in just two or three days, and that's just not realistic for tracking down and eliminating food intolerances, IMHO).
Another member, TendrTummy, is currently trying a program suggested by a chiropractor, if my memory is correct, and at last report, she was pleased with her initial results. Part of her problems, is/was severe lower back/pelvic pains.
My opinion, (same disclaimer as above), is that the desensitization programs work for many people who have only classic, histamine-based reactions, but those treatments are not effective for digestive system reactions, caused by food intolerances. This is a different kind of cat.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Tex,
Interesting. I will check that out with the chiropractor, regarding histamine vs. non histamine based reactions. His wife (also a chiropractor) told me that they are finding more and more patients coming in now who have food intolerances to even certain vegetables and rice, for example. So I have the impression they are speaking of delayed food reactions, not the histamine based type. I'll see.
All the allergy/food intolerance books I've read indicate that many intolerances can be overcome by staying away from the food for about 3 months, if you are also supporting the immune system (that includes the adrenals, digestion, and lymph systems), staying away from the trigger foods, and rotating your foods.
In my case, I've been quite good about staying away from most of my triggers, but I only discovered some of them (like the casein) recently. I've also really supported by immune system with supplements. But since I was still eating some trigger foods, it probably couldn't fully heal. I haven't rotated my foods until now. That, I think, was a big mistake for me. I beleive I developed more intolerances because I didn't do so. At any rate, even after not eating fruit for six months, I still can't eat it.
On the one hand, perhaps I simply need to be more patient and continue slowly down my trigger avoidance healing path. At the same time, my husband and I will be moving to Europe in July and we will be living in a situaiton where I won't have as much control over my food. So if I can regain some foods between now and then, it will make a huge difference in my life.
Anyway, I will let you know how it goes. I will be staying with my "no hope, no fear" motto. Celia

I agree with Jean and Wayne that there is no need for endless testing and trials of all kinds of treatments. I believe that most people - including chiropractors and other professionals who charge large sums for their tests and/or treatment plans - don't know anything about the particular problems that we MCers have. Thus the continuous searching for answers and solutions in all kinds of places and with all kinds of people will not lead to the results that I assume you want - I assume you want to live symptom free so you can return to a normal lifestyle with focus on your family, job and other interests you had before you became sick.
With the test results from Enterolab in your hands and the knowledge they provide combined with the guidance and advice given by people on this site who have the same diagnosis you have (namely MC) you simply have the key to a symptom free lifestyle. You do not need to keep looking everywhere else for other solutions, suggestions, or answers. You need to settle down and focus on fine tuning your diet - this may cause you to feel depressed and hopeless or at least sad and frightened - we have all been very sad and very frightened. But the truth is that you need to turn your view to yourself and ask yourself how you feel and start to pay more attention. Your body talks to you all the time - the symptoms are feedback that you can use to figure out what to eat and what not to eat. The answers do not come from some abstract idea of what should be right and wrong in theory. You are the only person who can make yourself feel better - and you have the ability to do so if you keep your focus right there; you must trust yourself - it is frightening to be on your own; but it is also rewarding when you start to see results of the work you do. Celia, you can do this and you need to do it yourself - every time you feel like asking another "expert" or searching for some new answers on the internet you need to stop in the tracks and look at yourself again; you are the expert, Celia; you are taking the steps that are necessary for your healing - noone else can come and do the work for you.
What I am trying to say is that the time has come for you to stop searching; you have already found the majority of the answers right here on this site - the paleo diet, the food intolerances, help and guidance in how to read labels and weed out potential hazards from your diet; lots of attention paid to detail every day, every time you shop, every time you cook, every time you put something in your mouth. This has worked for most of us and I think it will work for you as well. You are smart and dedicated - those are very important ingredients necessary for success - add a little more patience and a little more trust in yourself and you will make big strides.
Of course, you are always welcome to ask more questions - I think many problems can be helped by discussing and asking questions. However, the focus remains the same - your disease/problem has been defined. There are no easy solutions other than those provided by keeping your diet; it is a chronic disease - the problem does not go away. However, neither does it worsen - I don't believe the number of intolerances increases over time; but you may discover more intolerances as you become more knowledgable about your own diet and symptoms - I believe all the intolerances were there when the specific gene turned on. I may be wrong about this.
Love,
Karen

Inspired by the paleolithic diet and lifestyle -
living w/o gluten, dairy, soy, corn, and yeast.

Karen,
I agree with you--I also believe that the intolerances are present as soon as the disease is triggered. It sometimes seems that new intolerances are showing up, but I think that is because as we fine tune our diets, and begin to heal, any remaining undetected intolerances become easier to notice, since they are no longer "masked" by other intolerances that have been removed from our diets, previously.
Love,
Wayne.

Karen,
Thanks for all your caring and wonderful advice. I really feel that in your message!
Karen, my MC is "mild" and all my symptoms (20-25) have improved radically over the last two years. I've improved dramatically and my main stumbling block now is only the multiple, multiple food intolerances.
This improvement has happened because I have listened to my body and kept adjusting my diet even when I did not have the MC diagnosis, the support of a forum of experience people, and didn't know for certain that food was the trigger for my pain and countless other symptoms which, for the most part, were outside of the gastro system. I also had the help of some wonderful doctors who gave me support and supplements to heal all the many different systems in my body that had gone awry. It has really been a journey, but my searching and researching has brought me a great deal of healing. All in all, I usually feel quite well now.
I know that everyone in this forum has food intolerances, some just a few and others many more. At this stage, I am either uncovering or developing new intolerances, can eat less then 20 foods, and am losing weight...now down to 100 lbs. Even cucumber and kale and nuts cause a problem for me, so I can't just totally follow the paleo diet either. While the main intolerances may be genetic, I don't believe having intolerances to the majority of food is genetic. I beleive my immune system has just gone on overdrive, and won't stop in its effort to protect me.
There are people in my shoes that get down to eating just two foods. I doubt that you and Tex think that's genetic. If so, I'm in big trouble if I only can eat a handful of foods the rest of my life!!!! There are some people who become 'universal reactors' - literally reacting to almost every food for a whole variety of reasons. It is possible to come back; I've seen people who were 85 lbs. come back so I know it's possible.
I intend to continue to seek out the support that I feel I need to start gaining weight again because at this stage it is easy to make a mistake and create new intolerances. I have an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Europe for three years, but I will be in a situation where I will have less control over my food. So you can bet I am accelerating, not de-celerating, my search for any mode of healing that might be able to help me in the next three months. On the long run, I know it's also a matter of patience and time and following the diet. I'm doing that too. But if there is some method of healing that might help me, why wouldn't I give it a try! I've found over the course of my illness that different information or different practitioners suddenly appear in my life when the time is right, almost as though there's a synchronicity in the universe. I follow my intuition and trust that.
Our journey is an individual one. I completely bow to your diligience and success. I am inspired and awed by you! At the same time, I need to listen to my intuition and the wisdom of my body. It might look to you like fruitless searching, and maybe your are right, maybe it is. But I still need to do my journey, not someone else's.
I know your advice really comes from your heart and your caring, and I thank you for offering it to me.
Warmly, Celia
