Small world, huh?
She is almost 11 and was diagnosed a couple of years back with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis...about a month ago her neck swelled up so her mom took her to the doc and she has thyroid issues (a goiter?) apparently the levels are so high, the doctor couldn't believe she was as functional as she is.....they do wonder how long it was brewing and hope some of her other issues (some school-related such as concentration) and headaches are resolved with treatment. The mom mentioned she has a lot of health problems (I know for sure she has Hashimoto's thyroid and lupus) and unfortunately it appears the daughter has inherited that tenedency.
It sucks to be sick as a grownup, but I really feel for children who have to deal with this kind of stuff

yeah..
Me too, Mary :(
I worry about MY kids, you know??? I asked Dr. Fine once if he thought I should limit their gluten intake, in anticipation of ISSUES down the road.. he said no, and I guess that's just it.. if they have the genes they have the genes and it'll happen when it happens.. my son could be 12 or he could be 80 when the onset of symptoms occurs.. very sad..
I'm not POSITIVE my son has the genes, but jeez, he's got all the REST of my sorry genes!!! Plus some early signs that I had as well, restless legs, allergies, and he's so sensitive for such a young boy!!!! 6 yrs old and he cries relentlessly at the end of almost every Disney movie. And if he "accidentally" hits his brother, he feels so bad he starts crying :(
Anyway, poor child.. did you recommend she visit us here? oh wait.. we're closed. maybe she could go to the regular (old) board and we could catch her there?? is she dieting at all?

Christine,
I'd be tempted to try your son on a gluten free diet, just from the allergy perspective alone. It might help and it won't hurt. If a month or two shows no significant changes, then heck, just wait until whatever happens happens. He's at an emotional age too...I see that with Geoff's kids. Gotta let that take its course too I guess.

s'pose..
Yeah, I have thought of it.. I'm concerned with his nutrition tho. I don't see myself as very healthy right now, and I'm GF.. have been for 9+ months. I'm feeling absolutely horrible today and it's NOT good.. I'm almost crying I feel so horrible..
Anyway, I don't want to subject either of my kids to malnutrition despite their allergies when I really think about it.. they're at a stage when they're growing like weeds and need all the nutrition they can get. Otherwise I worry they'll have OTHER issues down the road, due to improper diet. They eat well now and take vitamins daily and I STILL worry about their nutrition, i.e. are they getting enuf??? lol I guess a mother ALWAYS worries.
So when do you think they get PAST the stage where they cry from movies?? lol Makes me so sad to see that side of him..

It is hard on the kids. I have one out of the 5 that has some sort of bowel issue right now. I feel for the little ones. I have a good friend who had a baby two years ago and from birth she had problems with her bowels. Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
That poor little child and only & 11 years old, not fair!
I'd take CC over my thyroid problems ANY day! I hope they can find a good treatment for her!
What exactly is Lupus and how is it treated? I think I heard that lupus can be deadly. Is that true?
