I'm holding steady

Post by celia »

I am holding steady at 101 lbs., so my panic over losing weight is subsiding. If I can keep above 100 lbs. for now while working out a strategy to gain some weight, I will feel okay about it.

My husband is trying to sort out his intolerances as well using a rotation diet and he has dropped to 144 lbs. It's so true, if you don't eat the carbs, you definitely lose weight! I like to see him at 155 lbs. Interestingly, I read somewhere that unexplained elevated liver values can be a sign of gluten intolerance. He started having abnormal values sometime around 2000. Then we did the Zone Diet and his liver values went back to normal, but a few years later were elevated again...when we let carbs slip back in. But we didn't see the connections.

I love my naturopath! She is so wonderful and it's so helpful to have her support. We streamlined my supplements so my body can have a break, but added in adrenal support since some symptoms of weak adrenal are rearing their ugly head again. Eating allergenic food is such a big depleter for the adrenals! Now that I am totally off the casein, it should really help. Just need to find any last lingering intolerances.

Thanks for everyone's support.

Be well, Celia

Celia....do naturopath's take insurance? In 90 days I am eligible for insurance at work. I would truly love to talk to one. Mike and I love the natual way of things.
My true love is herbal things. At one point I had so many herbs I carried with us working contruction on the road...that Mike put hi foot down and said Enough! I had crew members coming to my hotel room for herbs. Anyway....Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance

Oma, your stories always make me laugh. I've got a mental picture of all those crewman coming to get your herbs!

Celia, another thing besides gs damage to the liver causing a couple of elevated enzymes is that if your hubby had any procedure, like surgery or a colonoscopy, even, part of the anesthesia often given, the one that makes you "not remember." will elevate a couple of liver enzymes, but mine gradually went down as they should do.
Could this have been responsible for your hubby's elevations?

Yours, Luce

Oma,

I think it is uncommon for a naturopath to take insurance. None of the integrative medicine physcians I've been to previously have taken insurance either. It has cost me a small fortune.

Even in the field of alternative medicine, so much depends upon finding the right doctor. Since I've been ill I have worked with a chiropractor, an ayurvedic physician, an integrative medicine physician who studied at Dr. Weil's program, and now with the naturopath. Some of those practitioners sent me in wrong directions! In my naturopath, I feel I have now found the most qualified and well rounded support. Even so, I have to stay on my toes and keep doing my own research. So I can't recommend alternative medicine carte blance. I feel it's a question of finding the right person.

I didn't just do the alternative route. I also saw 7 medical doctors in various specialties, and that provided some useful information too, along with skepticism about my symtpoms being the result of food!

Herbs are so wonderful! It sounds like you are quite the healer!

Love, Celia

Luce,

Thanks for that extra info. Interesting! I don't think my husband had a procedure around that time, so my guess is that the elevation was related to gluten sensitivity.

Glad to "see" you on the board!

Celia,

At least if it's just the gs, and he's gf, it should clear up pretty soon, don't you think?
Is he doing pretty well following the diet?

Yep, on the board, but really brief -- too sleepy AGAIN!

Luce,

He went through a stage being a little depressed about it, especially when he discovered wheat in a few of some new supplements he's been taking. He was off gluten for quite a long time already - like six months or a year - and only reintroduced it once his colitis healed. Since he stopped again his facing itching has subsided but not disappeared. He seems to have some other intolerances so he's doing a 4-day rare foods rotation diet to try to uncover them all. It's challenging, but he's found some items (seafood and 2 eggs, but not 1) that bring on immediate gripping in his back. So it's useful!

Thanks for your kind words the other day. I will definitely miss all of you when I am in Europe too. Celia
