Mars Re:sleep
Hi Mars, are you sleeping yet? I hope you answer me with a large YES LOve Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
Hi Oma! Happy Sunday to you!
YES, I'm sleeping longer and also deeper. The days are killing me though. I am still struggling with staying awake during the day and also have NIL energy. I am sure it is a side-effect of the Ambien. I'm thinking that I am not getting a full 7-8 hours of sleep (only getting about 5-6) and that the meds are not out of my system. I do everything I can to stay moving so that I don't fall asleep. Sometimes I have to lay down and get a short snooze.
I know I'm not supossed to do that, but my body says I have to. I look like crap with dark circles under my eyes and my eyes are puffy. First sign I am not feeling good. I'm going to give the Ambien a little more time and hope for the best before calling the doctor.
My neck needs put back into place, I have decided. Guess I'm going to have to call the Chiropractor and get that taken care of. I'm sure that has something to do with the inability to sleep and the not feeling good.
Thanks for caring...........wish something would straighten out SOON!
Lots of love,
Mars

Lori,
I am takimg 12.rmg Ambien CR (the time release/two part pills). The first half desolves right away to help you get to sleep. The second layer is to keep you sleeping.
I wonder if breaking them in half would disturb the time release portion.
I'll research that. Anyone know?

Mars

OK, I'm back. I'm Going to call the doc on Monday, (I think he's closed on Monday's? Yikes) and see if he will change the doseage to 6.5mg. Sounds like the dosage might be too strong. I can't believe I didn't check before now!
I was doing this before taking the meds though (not able to stay awake), but it is probably not helping matters by keeping me tired. I also think Ambien is meant to be used for an 8 hour sleep. That is something I DON'T come close to.
Silly Me,
Mars

Hi Mars,
I assume by now you've discovered that the tablets are designed to be swallowed whole. I think that in general, only tablets that are scored across the middle, are intended to be broken in half for half-doses.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
The Ambien I take are not time released.....but it seems that maybe the dose you are taking is too much if you feel groggy the next day. I hope that will help......I have to really work on getting 8 hours sleep and more on the weekends but, I am also dealing with adrenal issues.
Its amazing how much better the day goes when you get a good nights rest! I am crossing my fingers and toes for you!

Hi Mars,
On my patient information sheet that I get with my scripts, it says to take Ambien only when you can devote at least 7 hours to sleep. So if you're only devoting 5-6 hours, that is why you're still sleepy during the day.
Hope this helps. It also says to take the tablet whole, presumably because of the timed release formulation.
Good luck.
Alice

Mars,
Sorry to hear about what appears to be side effects from the Ambien. That's the drawback of some prescriptions medications.
Here's another take on Ambien: Dr. Teitelbaum says that Ambien is less likely to cause side effects than other sleep medications. However, it is short acting and often does not give you a full night's sleep. Of course, the package is probably not going to say that! He says you can usually can count on 4-6 hours of solid sleep when taking it.
He says that if you wake up in the middle of the night you can take an extra 1/2 to 1 tablet, leave a glass of water and the pill by your bedside. That's presuming you are taking the normal dosage of 1/2 to one 10-mg tablet. Usually the effects will be worn off in the morning. But if doing this leaves you hung over, he suggests checking out Sonata. You probably want to check that with your doctor of course!
He has a full chapter in his book that talks about each prescription sleep meditation in detail with the pro's and con's. He also has a complete list and description of herbal remedies for sleep, the needed dose, and how to take them in combination. I found the chapter very useful when I had sleep problems. However, if waking up is due to a food reaction, I haven't found any sleep remedy that will overcome that. My body has a strong will when it's trying to tell me something!
His book on chronic fatigue is called: From Fatigued to Fantastic by Jacob Teitelbaum, MD.
Good luck with this! Celia
