So good to see you! I thought you'd been unusually quiet, but also knowing you were having issues and it being spring and all, I just figured you were busy.

I do have a bird question for you though...Last year our feeders were FULL of gold finches. And my mom said something about gold finches eating forsithia buds, which might have been why ours did not bloom well last year. This year though I have not seen one gold finch at the feeder, and two forsithia are blooming beautifully right now (the other 3 we cut back because they were encroaching on the driveway, so they are probably in shock this year anyway).

Has something happened to the goldfinch population? We've got lots of other birds around still. Only one pair of cardinals and they haven't been to the feeders much, but I see the red streaks through the yard from time to time.

Hi Katy,

I have been quiet and yes it is Spring, and I am really busy at the Garden Center.

I have never heard of the Goldfinches eating forsythia. It does not have a high seed content which is what they are usually after but nothing would surprise me in the bird world. Everyone I know is talking about the Goldfinches being less abundant this year and they are blaming it on the heavy rains in our area. Give them a couple of weeks and hopefully they will be right their with the Northern Cardinals.

It is good to be able to get on the Board every now and then and see what is happening with everyone. Hopefully, everything will be fine medical wise soon and I can be my old self.

Love, Maggie
