Subluxation Degeneration...........
Hi everyone,
I went to the Chiropractor yesterday for my neck which has been giving me problems for quite some time. I had a complete spinal x-ray and am scheduled for the results of my x-rays and examination and an education/training consult which will help me understand my condition; discuss my care plan options and the financial plan for the care (of course) and then an in-room consult with the doctor/re-alignment.
Last night they did an adjustment and gave me a tentative diagnosis (neck only) of spurs and degeneration in two discs in my neck, indicitave of a previous injury that could be 20+ years old.
They are suspecting Subluxation degeneration which is......
a complex of functional and/or structural and/or pathological articular changes that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health. as defined by the Association of Chiropractic Colleges.?????
When a subluxation occurs it causes nerve interference in some portion of the body affected by those nerves. The subluxation causes changes to the structure as well as the nerves. These changes get progressively worse as time is allowed to work on the subluxated area of the spine. These changes take the form of ongoing degeneration known as "subluxation degeneration". By understanding the type and amount of changes, it is possible to reasonably estimate the time subluxations have been present in a spine.
In phase one - the normal forward (lordotic) curve is lost in the neck. It should look like a banana. The disc spaces have begun to exhibit a slight change in shape and overall motion has not been affected.
I am in phase two (probably) by the description of the "wet" reading of my x-rays. In phase two - present from 20 - 40 years and some of the same characteristics as phase one. The range of motion has been compromised; degeneration shows a reduction in the range of motion; calcium changes or buildup at certain levels of the spine. (Spurs and arthritis). Disc spaces between the affected vertebrae are noticeably narrower and may appear to be flattening out.
Whew! I'm done! I'll let everyone know the details when I return from my extensive meeting tonight.
No wonder my neck hurts!!!!!!!!!
Love,
Mars

Dang! That makes my neck hurt, just reading that.
I hope the diagnosis turns out to be better than expected.
Good luck.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

MARGIEEEEEEEEE
Margie-----
My son, Doug, had 4 discs removed from his neck---(age 28)
Neuro didnt insert a rod---thus he cannt hold his head upright---and wears a collar---
The problem being the neuro SHOULD have inserted a rod--
Cus of this degeneration it led to his back falling apart and has had several operations to remove discs---and he has limited mobility---U and he sound like twins!!!!
He had no accident---he was a sports lover and played as hard as he could--so that could have caused some of his issies--and it breaks my heart to see him today!!!
I am not telling U this to scare U----but I read your post and am very concerned---
I KNOW the pain that Doug is constantly in---and he has been on DISABILITY since about 30---he is now 44 and cant do a friggin thing---suffers all the time--
So please take care and take the right steps to ensure the correct measure to give U HELP--
BTW----the NEURO that operated on Doug----he was kicked outta the med. profession for UN-NECESSARY operations and damaging others that he worked on--
The time was too late to get a lawyer for Doug----
luve Barbara
PS. and this NEURO was highly recommended by our friend---a nurse!!!

Wow, Barbara. I'm really sorry about Doug. I never knew the whole story. Your family (kids) don't seem to have very good luck with doctors. I hope that will soon change.
Mars, That's a pretty good description of my Mothers' condition but I think hers is more advanced. She had her first therapy session today. I don't know if she will be able to take it or not. I hope so. I know I'm going to start doing some of the exercises so I don't get as bad as she is. Do whatever you can to improve the condition NOW and not later.
Love, Shirley

That is what I had wrong with my neck, thus the disc replacement surgery.
I have lost the natural curve & not just in the neck...hehe! My neuro said no neck adjustments before & after surgery.
I still have some problems especially when under "stress".
A friend of mine has the same issue and she went to a special weight trainer that helped her build strength and muscle in her neck. I didn't meet her till after I had the surgery.
Good luck....I am sure your stress level is off the charts! You deserve a good massage.
Hugs

Mars,
It's really good to find these things out rather than suffering in a cloud of mystery. That's one step forward. Smart thinking to check it ou! By catching it now, I'm hoping that you can avoid as much degenerations as possible. Well, I never heard of strength training for the neck, but it sounds like a good idea!
Warmly, Celia
