Your Local Weather Conditions--If You Want Them

Post by tex »

Hi All,

You may have noticed a new slot above the forums on the index page. It's for a local weather report, including present conditions, and a ten-day forcast.

If you want to see your local weather report, all you have to do is go to your profile, and enter a zip code for an appropriate city. When you open your profile you will notice that there is a new information window just under your username, that is labeled "Weather City Code". Just enter the zip code in that window, and click on the "Submit" button, down at the bottom of the page, and your local weather will always be available on the index page, and it will be automatically updated.

If you don't want the weather information to appear on your personal copy of this bulletin board, then just leave the "Weather City Code" slot blank, and the weather report will vanish.

Your zip code does appear in your profile in the "Memberlist", so that other logged-in members can see it if they click on the Memberlist, and then on your name. If you would like, I can modify the code so that only registered members that I authorize, can view the Memberliist. IOW, new members would not be able to view the memberlist, until after they have made a certain number of posts. That would eliminate spying eyes who register just to steal email addresses and other information. Presently, only registered and logged-in members can see the memberlist, but ALL logged-in members can see it, if they choose to do so.

If no one cares for this feature, and it gets on your nerves, just let me know, and I can remove it. I assume that it will display temperatures and wind velocities in the proper units, in various parts of the world, but I could be wrong. For all I know, it might only display for U S zipcodes.

Let me know if you want it removed, and/or if you want me to hide the membertlist information from newbies, until they've proven themselves to be legitimate.

I get:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected ';' in /httpd/virtwebs/www.perskyfarms.com/web/phpBB2/includes ... gister.php on line 149

when I click on profile. Perhaps you are working on the site. Probably will work later.

Ok, I've undone all the changes that I made last night. Are you able to access your profile now?

I've got to go to work, so I'll have to work on this later.

Sorry for the problems. Sigh.

Love,
Wayne

Ok, I've got the weather report back in the code. See if it works right for you, and please let me know what you think about this addition.

Thanks,
Tex

 WOW it's BIG!!! AND you get a week's forecast!!!

Everything seems to be working fine, Wayne.
I think I like it. May take a few days to decide for sure.
Wasn't expecting it to be so..............large.
Don't change it right away. Give it a chance.

Shirley,

I didn't expect it to be so large either, but that certainly makes it easy to read. LOL.

I suppose I could fiddle with the templates, and downsize it, if enough people would prefer that.

Tex,

I like your new feature! Thanks so much. It doesn't matter to me what size it is.
