Question----important

Post by barbaranoela »

Visited my SIL cus the time was right to open the tear ducts and I had to talk about my *feelings* etc. and I am going to post what WENT ON!!!!

There was so much I said and she said nothing---

But the question is-----she has a 2 year old shepard---a very nasty dog---protector of her and such---

He jumped on me and I just froze---she pulled him off but he had time to claw my arm----not seeing anything cus I had on a long sleeve top + a sweater----b ut when I got home---I saw the blood on my sleeve----and then saw that this killer sorta took a little piece outta my arm--a wee chunk````

I called her up----he is a house dog + has had all shots--she is sorry she got this dog----cus he is a danger to anyone that might enter---

I cleansed the wound with peroxide and used basitracin --covered with a bandage

Does anyone think it necessary for me to check it out???
No way am I going to ER---No way am I taking antibiotics!!

Of course if things look worse tomorrow I guess I will--

SEE---U go for a good cause and this friggen dog takes a bite outta me--

I will ADD this----she used the word ENVY!!!! ENVY of me and Lou alive--
Pissed off that we went to AZ. when we knew the time would be coming soon??
And other stuff----U wont believe--

But right now, am worried about the bite----thinking due to the 2 long sleeved things I had on---he didnt get right to the skin with his BARE TEETH

thanks--
Barbara---

Hi Barbara

If you're sure she's correct about the dog having all his shots up to date, you will be okay, but watch the wound carefully. If it looks reddish and the redness is moving anywhere other than just around the wound, get to the Dr. PDQ!!
It probably will be fine, but just watch.
Your SIL should put the dog in another room or basement when someone comes. She obviously can't control him.

Sorry she's bringing her resentment out about your life and is resentful. She obviously is unhappy. Try not to get upset and just be thankful for all you have.

Talk to you when I get back from my holiday. I'll be back here on Friday.

Love - Momster

Hi Barbara,

I wouldn't worry about rabies, unless the dog dies in a couple of weeks, in which case his brain should be tested for rabies.

The biggest risk is for infection, but since he's a house dog, he probably hasn't been eating any dead snakes or skunks recently, so that may not be a very big risk, either.

Did he bite you or claw you? Claws probably carry more germs, on the average, than teeth. If the sleeve of your blouse is a tight weave, and it wasn't torn, he might not have directly contacted your skin. Even if he did, the peroxide should have done a good job of washing out any germs. Odds are, you won't have any problems, but as Momster suggested, keep an eye on it, just in case.

Incidentally, are you aware that hydrogen proxide is no longer recommended for cleaning wounds. In the last 10 years, wound care specialists have come to realize that too much tissue damage occurs to healthy cells that are needed for wound healing when hydrogen peroxide is used, therefore it can actually inhibit wound healing.

Morning Barbara,

It sounds like you took good care of the wound and personally, I would go back and let the dog have it. If she cannot control the dog, get rid of it. Also, it seems as if she is just a petty, jealous person. I realize she lost Robert but it is no reason to place the load on you because you went away.

Sorry I am sounding off, but it just seems that your burden gets worse and worse and my mood dictates that I tell you exactly what I am thinking.

Good thing it was not me because Frank would do the dog in for good.

Love, Maggie

Hi Bubbs,

I agree with the others that your arm will be fine. Having 2 big dogs, I realize how important control is. There's nothing you can do about this dog, except if you ever visit your SIL again, call ahead and ask that she put him in the basement or outside for your visit.

Your SIL has emotional problems, and they are not your fault. It sounds like she needs therapy to resolve them and restore your relationship. Again, there's little you can do. Realizing this might give you some peace about the situation.

Hope this helps.

Love,
Alice

Hiya Sis!

That woman ain't never gonna change, so I have to agree with Alice.....write her off if you can! You have certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty to give her a chance, and she always disappoints you. I'm sure that dear Robert knows how hard you have tried to maintain the relationship, and that's all that really counts. Right?

I agree with the dog clawing advice you received above. When I worked in the E. R. we noticed that dog bites rarely got infected, but that human bites often did. LOL! I don't know if there is any difference between dog/human clawing! WOW- that dog added insult to injury, didn't it?

Love,

Sispolly
