Cleaning Video Tapes

Post by Liz »

Does anybody know any thing about cleaning & restoring Video tapes? The video od Judy & Balan's wedding has become all mouldy, which I found on Saturday when I went to put it on DVD. It has taken me until now to clean off all the junk from the video head to get it working again. I think that this is the only copy of the tape in captivity, as Judy's seemed to go missing during her moving to New Zealand. It was such a beautiful ceremony, with not only two of her friends singing but she herself singing a beautiful song especially for Balan, which had everybody in tears. I would appreciate any help that you could give me.

Hi Liz,

The fifth section down from the top, on this site, discusses cleaning moldy tapes:

Good luck,

Thanks Wayne. I have just found that site & it is very good. Looks like I will have to try to find a professional to clean it for me. It seems as though mould could be a bit of a problem if you don't know what you are doing.

You're very welcome, Liz.

I think you're right--my experience has been that mold can be very tough to work with, depending on what it's growing on. I wouldn't want to tackle the job of tring to remove it from a video tape, unless I had specialized equipment to deal with it.
