I may have mentioned before that my 14 year old granddaughter, Kyla, plays cello in her middle school orchestra. The middle school and high school gave a performance today. I absolutely cannot believe how professional those kids sound. There is so much talent in the schools. The concert was absolutely awesome, especially the high school performance.
Kyla will be in high school next year. I am really hoping that she will continue to have the desire to play. She really is very good at it. "Teenage" things do get in the way sometimes though.
Anyway, I just had to brag a little bit.

The kids today*I seem to SEE* continue with their talents---and also include *teenager* time too----
Kris is also in the school band---and I,as U, am amazed when we hear them play--@ her fav. is the piano--but the FLUTE drives me crazy
She will be 16 comes Sept.--has a part time job---applies herself to her talents and schoolwork also!!!
Remember---with us and our kids----*did U do your homework?*
If KYLA luves her playing--and the CELLO--she will continue with it--

Neat! I played cello for a brief stint in grade school. Its a nice instrument. But we didn't have an orchestra in my school, so when I was old enough to take up a band instrument I did. I did both that year, but I also had piano lessons too and found 3 instrument lessons to be too much.
I hope she does keep up with it. There are lots of places to play as an adult, and it is a wonderful stress reliever for those of us in non-musical professions. I skipped my own band practice last night because it was too nice out and Geoff and I ate a late dinner that I would have had to rush through to get to rehersal in time. Ah well. Next week.
My daughter is 16 and played the piano for several years but gave it up to focus on her school work (she is now 9th in her class out of 244) sorry, I had to brag a little....But, I can't take any credit for her hard work..It is all her..... I hope one day she will play again...
I am amazed at how many kids can juggle so many activities at once...I work with a severely hearing impaired student who has a cochlear implant to help her hear better.....she does Irish Step Dancing and plays the saxophone - she is also a straight A student in the 5th grade...
Me, on the other hand, have to write everything down on my calendar and sticky notes at work.....My multi-tasking days are ... well isn't working full-time and parenting 2 teenagers considered multi-tasking?
You go ahead & brag all that you want Shirley. That is a Grandmothers' job, after all. You must be so proud of her. If she really loves her music, she will continue with it.
Our daughter Judy was always musically inclined & apart from her singing she learnt to play several instruments. She even came home with a tuba once, upon which she was sent down behind the banana trees to practice . It sounded rather like a sick cow. In any case she still plays the piano, organ & clarinet. She even had guitar lessons at one time. We all learnt to play the organ with the teacher coming to our house for our lessons seeing there were four of us. Got a bit hectic at times I can tell you.
