I'm here! And a note about bird flu.

Post by Polly »

Morning Friends!

I have been lurking (of course) but not posting much lately, We had a death in the family (my niece who is like my daughter lost her MIL). So I've been helping out with child care, etc. The funeral was yesterday with viewings all weekend.

Apparently there will be a movie on TV tonight that deals with bird flu. I'm sure it will present the worst-case scenario; however, I wonder if everyone knows that our gov't. experts are recommending that we do take certain precautions. For example, they are recommending that everyone stock up on a 2 week supply of foods, medicines, water, etc., in the event that the pandemic is bad enough to cause disruptions in food/medicine distribution.

Here is a website that provides info - it was sent to me by the American Academy of Pediatrics. I guess it's best to be prepared...................especially folks like us who may need antidiarrheals and/or other MC meds, fluids/electrolytes, toilet paper etc. Just figuring out a 2 week supply of canned food will be a challenge for me, since almost everything I eat now is fresh food.

Prepare for bird flu now

Yes Oma, this is scarey.

Polly, thanks for posting about this. The experts are predicting that it will enter the US in Alaska this summer because of the migratory birds.

We have an earthquake 4 week supply at home but like you said, for us with compromised systems it will be hard. Diet is controling my symtoms but I have a stock of Entocort because I know I will need it. Alot of the foods I've banked are processed. Hello D!!!

My family will go into social isolation mode and hope we can survive the flu. Alaska is preparing for for this big time.

Like you mentioned, medications are a big thing. Hope you are all prepared.

Love,
Joanna

Polly-

I know that moslty what you eat is fresh but I personally am going to stock up on frozen veggies; I know they arent fresh but as far as I know they dont contain any allergins. You can also freeze your fresh fruit I think to keep for a few weeks. I will also get a lot of salmon and other fish as they not bulky and fit into my freezer well. A good 3 week supply of chicken should be bought and that is where it gets tough for me because of space.

I am rather lucky that I can eat rice and rice noodles as I can buy a ton of those and make meals from that.

I am going to get a 3 week supply of distilled water to use for cooking and drinking.

I also saw the commercial for the show but I dont think it will be that bad. I heard the government have some shots available if needed as well. Dunno how many.
Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!
