My news

Post by JJ »

Hi everybody...I haven't shared much lately....very busy at school and trying to make sure I have work this summer, and some extra income next year...whew.

I don't know if I mentioned it, but I applied to be a host for International students next year...it is through Tacoma Community College. I have had friends who have done it and it brings in $$$, but is also fun. I have been fixing-up my two spare rooms...not done quite yet...yikes. I made it through the first phase which was the checking of references. Then today, the head of the program came to my house to interview me and look at the rooms, etc. I passed! I still need to pass the criminal background check, but as the woman said....I AM a teacher and of course I will pass.

My first student arrives in one month! She is from Japan. :) I love to cook Japanese food...yippee! Maybe she can teach me some new recipes!

Then in the fall, I will have another student arrive. They will not put two kids from the same country together, so I know the other girl will not be Japanese. Wow...so the new chapter in my life is about to begin. Stay tuned.

TTFN...Love, JJ

Hiya Jill!

I've been wondering what's up, so it's good to hear from you. I think having the foreign students is a wonderful idea. And just think! You will now have someone in Japan (and elsewhere) to go visit someday!!!

I am so relieved to know that all is working out. You GO, girl!

Love,

Polly

Jill,

That's great news. Thanks for the update. I think it's absoslutely super that both of you, (well, actually, all three of you), will have such a wonderful opportunity to learn about each other's cultures. I hope that everything continues to go smoothly.

Love,
Wayne

Hi all...thanks for your kind words of support...I am really excited about this.....I think you can tell...ha ha. Our Japanese teacher here at school is already plotting a dinner party so she can meet my student.

We are having our Spring Festival today at school...the theme is Asia. We just had grades 6-12 out on the front lawn doing Tai Chi....I loved it!

Later, the Middle School will do a dragon dance and we're ending with real fireworks off the school tower.....should be a hoot.

Hey Pegster....I can always pitch a tent for you out in the back yard! Har har! The girl who arrives in June will get your room....then, after I fix up the front room, I will give her a choice of rooms. The woman who did the home visit yesterday was very impressed with my huge closets, and joked that we could stick another student in there....she lived in Japan, as did I, and we shared stories about our tiny living quarters.

I just got home from dinner with my step mom. I was going to try to have dinner with Momster while she was in town, but I already had plans...darn. Maybe she will call later and we can chat. I am going to get on my jammies and grade Art History tests....yippee...nite nite...JJ
