Reminder About Grapefruit and Medications

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Most of us are aware of this, but in case anyone has forgotton about it, always be careful when eating grapefruit, if you are taking certain meds. Some meds are unaffected, and some have only minor changes in their behavior, but there are a few meds for which grapefruit can cause severe, (life-threatening), situations. Here is a list of meds which are affected by grapefruit, and the known effects:

http://www.fhma.com/grapefruit.htm

Also, here is an article by CBS News, that includes a list of medications known to be affected by grapefruit. This list contains some medications that are not on the other list:

Tex,

Thanks for the reminder. Why don't you copy and paste these URLs into the Info on Medications forum so that we always have this info available?

Love,

Polly

I wonder if maybe all corticosteroids should be on the list, since methylprednisolone, (cortisone), is on it.

It's interesting that even something like caffeine is affected.
