Hi all,
As some of you may remember, I've recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis.
As a follow up to my blood levels for Vit D, etc., the doc asked me to submit a second voided urine specimen for a test to determine bone turnover.
Fortunately, this gave a negative result, indicating that I'm not losing bone very fast at all, therefore, I'm thinking that I must've stopped loosing bone for the most part, once I started absorbing the nutrients from food (dairy, etc.), so I've a ways to go to catch up.
Anyway, the doc didn't think that it was imperative that I start medication for osteoporosis given the slow bone turnover result from this test, which makes me feel a little less anxious about the possibility of fracture at this point in time. Real test will come next year or so when I get retested.
Yours, Luce

Luce---I have a very bad time with all that stuff one takes to keep bones *knitted* together---
Many times it causes me horrible *reflux* issues----which I once thought I was having a Gall Bladder attack---Pain from middle of chest right thru to the back----was checked for that also--GB fine--
So, I am now going to try Boniva---I think thats the spelling---
Spine is pretty good---hips are so/so!!!
Also diagnosed --Osteo.~~~~
take care,
Barbara

Hi Celia,
Do you have osteoporosis? If you've not had a bone density test, that's the logical place to start, particularly with malabsorption.
If you do show significant bone loss as a result of the osteoporosis, then the next step might be to check for Vit D levels and parathyroid hormones, etc., before doing the bone turnover stuff. I guess mine just aren't losing bone as fast as they were before I fixed the problem which means I'm hoping for a good bone density next year.
Did I mention the study that showed that celiacs with osteoporotic bones returned to normal in a year after diagnosis (being gf all year)? I would imagine that the population might've been a bit younger that the M.C. population, however, so age would factor in, but how much, who knows??
Yours, Luce
