Infection appears to be VAGINAL---

Im not sure SIL is Xplaining right--

I really dont understand this???

Would REALLy APPRECIATE if anyone can Xplain this to me---

Vaginal yeast infections are common during the last few weeks of preganancy. NO, it can not be treated if the baby is expected to be delivered vaginally.

Although uncomfortable, I do not believe it is dangerous for the mother and/or baby.

Hang in there Barb - it will be ok!

Love ya,
Mars

Barbara-

I'm guessing she tested positive for "Group B Strep" she can be a "carrier" if there is a colony present when they swab you (usually during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy). They don't treat in NOW because it could re-colonize before delivery. The important thing is it could transmit as the baby goes through the birth canal, so if a woman tests positive, she needs to get to the hospital early in labor so antibiotics can be started to lessen the chance of passing it to the baby during the delivery (it can cause serious complications!).

It is normal to carry some, but when it colonizes and there is a large amount, precautions need to be taken to protect the beby. It is a very common situation - every woman is tested at the end of the pregnancy - and as long as they know to start antibiotics during labor, all will be fine

Perhaps it is something else - but that would be my guess!!

Love,

Mary

Hey Barb,

Wow, you're going to have unsurpervised free time with the girls!

They want her to get to the hospital when her water breaks because after the sack is broken, ANY bacteria can reach the baby, even with a healthy mom. So doctors will induce someone whose water has broken so the baby is out within 24 hours.

No worries!
