Gut *must* be healed...weight gain!

Post by CAMary »

Ugh! I have gained 5 lbs. this winter - NEVER been able to gain my whole life - it must be aging, combined with going GF which has fixed my malabsorption issues

Had trouble buttoning my jeans yesterday - checked the label and those are my *fat pants* I usually wear when I am bloated!

I also injured my foot about 6 weeks ago, which has curbed my workout regimen - I *think* I have plantar fascitis (arch pain) - but haven't been to the doc, since they'll probably just prescribe NSAIDS (not!). I bought some arch supports for my shoes and I'm trying to ice it at night - but it can be a long healing process - I'm going to have to find some other way to burn calories or I will become a whale

It's hard to believe 6 years ago I was sick as a dog, at my lowest weight since junior high, and feeling discouraged...while I am bummed I now have to watch my weight, it also makes me feel *healthier* in a way, KWIM? At least I know my body is absorbing what I put in my mouth...

Busy weekend - off to a wedding today and having friends over tomorrow to BBQ and plan our "road trip" to Yellowstone/Wyoming this summer!

Love,

Mary

Boy can I Identify with "The Whale" theory. My gut must be healed somewhat, as I have been off Asacol for almost 2 1/2 mo without any problems. Actually started gaining weight before I dropped the asacol. Should have paid attention to that. I also have Fat pants that are tight. If you find a great exercise, let me know as I still have a bad knee and can't do alot of reg exercise either. Love Oma :barbell:

Maybe we need a "weight loss" support section now! I am definately in the crowd of gained weight! My weight all redistributed this last year and I went from a pudgy size 14 to a 20  . And it seems no matter what I do, I can't loose it! I am finally able to wear slightly tight pants though as my incision has continued to heal even these many months after the surgery. I feel like I'm more active than last year, and I am making more of an effort to eat healthfully, but the pounds stay.

As for the plantar facitis, have you found stretches specific to it? Might be worth a trip to the doc just for that info. Tell him no to NSAIDs unless absolutely crippling, but a little PT can go a long way. I know my dad had troubles several years ago and the stretches helped him a lot.

Katy,

I think it's the dang surgery that causes it. I'm having the same problem since my surgery. LOL.

I'll set up a forum for it if enough people are interested. What should we call it?

Ahhh, shucks, Mary! I was thinking that plantar fascitis would go away after removing the antigens since plantar fascitis is supposed to be an AI disease.

I know that mine did, along with the arthritis and tight tendons in the foot and ankle. Wow, no wonder I couldn't walk!

Do you suppose that anything you are eating..say like one of the more common allergens could be related?

Also, I've heard that people with celiac disease have less flesh on the bottoms of their feet, and also, tend to have flat behinds, at least while they are at a normal wt for their frames.

My sister bought some Scoll's pads recently -- the full length of the foot ones. Think they were about $4.50 here, and she got these at Target, but she said that Walgreen's should also have them. Our Target sometimes runs out of this brand, by the way. Sis has had to use expensive orthotics, but is trying to wean herself off of those, and she thinks these do a pretty descent job. She's not tried them at work as of yet, but wants to see how they feel when she's on her feet all day. Said she may go up to the next level of Scoll's just to see if they are even better.
Whole foot kind are definitely better than those that just go under the heal part or half the foot.

Yep, stretches can be very helpful!
Think a long time ago in a medical catalog, I saw some devices like little braces that keep one's foot from extending when asleep. These would keep it at right angles with the leg. This may keep them from hurting first thing in the morning when one stands upon them, I would think.

At any rate, I really feel for your poor feet.
Get better soon.

Also, I discovered that no matter how many things I find that I react to, I have an amazing way of finding other things to replace them with that are just as fattening as the breads, cakes, dairy, etc. that I've had to give up. Think we just crave the calories sometimes. Back to square one, right?

I'm sure that you'll be able to get the extra pounds off, maybe this summer with all the stress of school overwith for the year.
By the way, how much time do you actually get off for your the summer?

Yours, Luce
