Using the Quote feature and more questions

Post by harvest_table »

Hi Tex,

How do we use the quote feature to take only a sentence or small portion of someones post? I've tried but it always prints the entire post. Exactly what steps do we need to do?

Also, how do you post a link to another net site and put a word such as LOOK HERE to access the site? Know what I mean?

Also, I've had problems cutting and pasteing more than one link at a time. In other words, if I wanted to post and put multiple links in that post how do I do that? I'm sure it's possible and you have the answer!

Thanks,
Joanna

Cutting and Copying

Post by harvest_table »

Oh, and also....

When we want cut or copy the text of another site to include it in a post and also provide the link to it in that post how is this done? (short of hand writting it down)

And whats is the differance between cutting or copying anyway?

Thanks,
Joanna

Hi Joanna,

I apologize, but I was working on an upgrade for the board that day, and I somehow missed this topic when you posted it, and once I log off, the new post flags are removed, so I didn't notice it afterwards, either.

Anyway, here goes: To quote part of another post, or anything else, for that matter, simply copy the text that you want, and paste it into your message window. Then highlight it, and click on the Quote button above the message box. That should do it.

To embed an URL in a live link designated by another name, requires the use of HTML code or BBCode. I'm not sure that this board software will do that the way it's currently configured, because HTML code can be a security risk, so only certain features are currently activated. Also, there is currently a bug in the new version upgrade that was installed a few days ago, that affects the way that quotes are handled, and I haven't had the time to see if a fix has been released and verified for that problem. IOW, I'll have to try to get back to you on that one. If you really want to use it, it can certainly be done.

In WindowsXX, the clipboard will only handle one clipping at a time, so you have to copy and past items one at a time. To make it easier, you can open multiple browser windows, (multiple tabs, for tabbed browsing), with most current browsers, by clicking on CTRL + T. Then just tab back and forth between your message composing window, and the page that you are copying from, simply by clicking on the appropriate tabs, in your tab bar. You can open as many tabs as you want.

To copy text from another site, (or another topic), simply highlight the text you want to copy, and copy it to the clipboard. Then just paste it into your message, wherever you want it. To copy a link to another site, (or to another topic), simply go to that site, (or topic), and highlight and copy the URL, (the html address), that appears in the window in the tool bar at the top of the page, and paste that URL into your message, wherever you want it to appear. The system will automatically convert it into a link.

Cutting removes the selected text from an article, whereas copying replicates it, without removing it, (much like deleting rather than copying files, using Windows Explorer, in your computer's file system).

Actially, there are several ways to quote text, but it looks as though you've got the hang of it, now.

Again, sorry I overlooked this topic,

Tex
