Crisi's Diet
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to get some input on my diet. These days I'm eating:
chicken ,carrot soup with homemade stock and one small potato.
1/2 banana, 1/2 cup applesause, 1 t. flax oil
cod, carrots and blended squash with chicken stock
Another cup of the chicken soup without potato and with squash
2 chicken thighs, Small potato( new...no skin) , carrots, and a couple of asparagus spears
1/2 banana, 1/2 cup applesause
My bowel habits have changed this week. I was having softly formed stools 1-4 times a day...pretty large volume at times. This week I have had unformed stools...however only one bowel movement a day and with a lot less volume. So, I'm not sure but could perhaps be going in a better direction???????
It sounds like from all of you that if I want to add another food to my diet I should add a protein...maybe shrimp????What do you guys think???
Love,
Cristi

I still think that the asparagus is too much for a begining diet. I dont really tolerate it well, overcooked green beans are great to eat. Are you making your own applesauce? If not what kind are you using?
Why not try chicken breasts instead of thighs for a while just because thighs are more fatty and chicken breasts are leaner. I occasionally have a thigh but I have grown to really like chicken breasts.
And for fish salmon is good because it gives you the omegas and is soothing to the digestive tract.
I tolerate bananas very well but I know they are hard for some to digest. I am assuming that you are cutting out rice? Rice is always a soothing food for me but I know some cant tolerate it.
Just some thoughts.

Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!

Christi,
It sounds like you are doing well and are on the right road. Asparegus might be the culprit in the less formed department, but also, if the volume is less, that is a good sign and if you can tolerate the less formed nature, the variety might help you keep going in this positive direction.
How about cooked peas? They are kind of starchy...maybe less fibrous? Sounds like root vegetables are going well, how about sweet potato? I'm having a hard time thinking through vegetables right now...thinking about what is in my garden are the only ones I can come up with and I don't think many of them are great for a healing gut. How about beets? Also a root type veggie.
Fish is probably good to add, just make sure you don't eat too much or check the heavy metals content. How about eggs? You could try one day and then take a break from them and see how they digested. Probably hard boiled is best...cooked without added oil that way.
Others will have better suggestions. Veggies weren't too bad for me as long as I avoided lettuce.

Cristi,
How about leafy green vegetables? They have the chlorophyll which is really helpful for healing the gut. Red chard, green chard, collarge greens, kale, spinach, dandeloin greens, etc. Zucchinni and fennel are other good low starch vegetables.
If the root vegetables work for you, great, but they are not usually recommend in terms of hypoglycemia, which you have trouble with at times. Peas are also higher in sugar/starch.
Be well, Celia
P. S. I am going to France for 3 years and 4 months on a meditation retreat, so I won't be able to connect with you guys via the internet.

Cristi,
Lower volume BMs are definitely a very good sign. MCers are prone to a form of diarrhea known as secretory diarrhea. It sounds like your secretory diarrhea is disappearing, and you are probably now experiencing more normal osmotic diarrhea. If you're not familiar with the four types of diarrhea, here's a refresher course from the Merck Manual:
http://www.merck.com/mrkshared/mmanual/ ... 27/27b.jsp
That's probably more than you ever wanted to know about diarrhea, but I think it's pertinent to your current stage of recovery.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Christi,
Sounds like you're doing better. Make sure the chicken isn't injected with anything you can't have. Tyson is a definite no-no for us.
Have you been looking for possible contaminations? I'm concerned about your HRT, could easily contain gluten. How about lipstick, toothpaste, soap residue on dishes or people (I have a funny story), licking envelopes, food crumbs from family members, etc.
It's easy to get contaminated, believe me. I've done it often. I now feel like Monk in my vigilance.
Love, Jean

Be kind to everyone, because you never know what battles they are fighting.
Hi Jean,
Thanks for raising the possibility of contamination. I'm sure my food is good...organic chicken (whole foods) , My HRT is a cream and I wash my hands after applying it, and I've stopped wearing make-up until I feel up to researching them. I looked on a celiac website and it said that neutragena products are safe so I've been using their chapstick and lotion. It also said that softsoap antibacterial was okay. I haven't checked out my shampoo though. This site was just a posting from some random person though. I haven't started looking at the chemical ingredients ....too over whelmed with the diet to do that yet. But I guess that's what I should be doing.
What kind of house rules have you implemented with your family to keep your food safe? Is there a master site for safe products?
Thanks for the info, Jean.
