HELP Having problems with board

Post by Barbara5603 »

Wayne or others

Why do I have to keep logging back in after I post a reply and then try to go to a new topic? I finally gave up and closed the site because I couldn't get out of the log in loop. So now I open up and log back in again. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi Barbara,

Sorry to read about the problem. I'm not sure why that's happening. It could have something to do with the link you are using to access the site. If you're using the back button on your browser to go back to the message board after making a post, you may be going back to the log-in page. There are a couple of links above the window that displays the posts, that you can click on to either go back to the message board, or to the index page.

After you make a post, you should see a window that offers you a choice of links either to see your new post, or to go back to the forum, (and read some more posts). Have you tried clicking on the latter?

I don't belive any of the rest of us have encountered that problem, (yet). I usually use the link below, to access the site, and it should take you to the index page, where you can log on, and then you can go to the main message board, or wherever you want to go:

http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/index ... 037ad26044

Or, your browser may just be "acting up", and you may need to reboot the computer to get it straightened out.

Please let me know if the problem persists, and I'll get a better description from you, and try to track down exactly what's happening.

Tex

P S When that was going on, I noticed that you were logged in with at least a half dozen tabs, so the program is not automatically logging you out. You should see those extra tabs, (buttons), in your task bar, at the bottom of the screen. Try clicking on some of the other "buttons" to see where they take you.

HI Wayne, thanks for responding. Yes I do see the window after writing a post and if I don't click on either choice I automatically see my reply come up at the end of the thread. What's been happening is when I try to go back to the forum and read another post I have to log in again. I've not seen any tabs in the task bar. BTW I've been getting a message window that says the topic I'm trying to access is not available or invalid. Not sure I'm saying it correctly, but you get the gist. I'm sure I must be doing something wrong since no one else is having a problem!! I'll let you know if I continue to have problems and I've made note of the site address.

Hi Barbara,

It sounds like that window is working correctly. If you don't make a selection within about 10 seconds, the program automatically defaults to the top selection.

The question is, how are you attempting to go back to the forum?

I'll redo your permissions, in case something is wrong there.

Wayne,
I go to the top of the page and click on Main Message Board. Sometimes it works, other times I get the window to enter username and password. I do this again and the enter username window comes right back up again. Is there some other way to go back to the forum (which is the main message board, right)? Had trouble again today.

I wonder if you have cookies turned off. I'm not sure how passwords are saved for this site, but perhaps that's it.

Hi Mike,

I've already sent Barbara an e-mail about that, but I haven't seen her response. I see you're thinking along the same lines.

Since this is a hidden board, the problem is probably more with permissions, rather than with passwords, once a member is successfully logged on. Theoretically, passwords only need to be checked at log-on. Permissions, however, are checked every time someone tries to access a "hidden" forum, and that fits the pattern of problems that she is having.

Without a system of setting and reading cooikes, the software would have no way of knowing whether a member has permission to access any given hidden forum, since that has to be tested with every navigation to a hidden forum.
