Hi Carla,

Welcome aboard. Glad to see you're here.

Hi Carla and welcome! I'll be back later but wanted to say now that you are the first person I've seen who has both LC -and- Celiac. Wow. Well at least you know not to eat gluten. I have LC but tested negative for Celiac although I do have the DQ2 gene. Did you get diagnosed with both diseases at the same time? I'm really, really curious becuase I have a hunch that I may have Celiac, although possibly a latent or silent type. Thanks - to be continued.

Carrie
diagnosed LC 9/04, in remission since 1/05

P.S. I hope you will stay with this forum. I know there are lots of rooms for Celiac but IMHO this is the best for MC/CC/LC. I, for one, am really interested in learing more about your medical history!!!

Hi Carla,

Welcome to the family
I am looking forward to seeing you post and learning about how you cope with Microscopic Colitis and Celiac Disease. Someone mentioned they don't know of any others with both dxs but I think Lucy is one. It actually doesn't matter so much whether you have Celiac Disease or not - there is a wide spectrum of gluten sensitivity and many of us fall into it somewhere on the scale. The treatment is the same

I guess I'm getting too serious

Love,
Karen

I really enjoy reading all your posts, even though I may not be an everyday poster, I still come here several times a day - and always learn something !

As far as being dx'd with both LC and celiac, in my reading I have found it far more common for a Celiac to be dx'd with LC or CC after being dx'd with Celiac. I think I read somewhere in one study or another that approximately 30% of LC sufferers have actual biopsy proven Celiac, and that doesn't account for what they term "gluten intolerant" I also remember reading that in certain people, the MC may actually be the colon's response to gluten - as the villous atrophy is the small intestines response to gluten.

I think that in the coming years, there will be lots more research done (hopefully) on Celiac & MC, with the result being that they may be even more connected than previously thought. Just think, a few years ago, Celiac was "something extremely rare in the US - maybe one in 4000 people" Now, we know that the prevalence is closer to 1 in 150 in the general population, and in a symptomatic person, closer to 1 in 50. I remember the first gastroenterologist I saw told me this, "You can't have Celiac, you are in your 30's." Well, i guess my second (and far better) gastroenterologist has proven him wrong ! I often thought about stopping by to see the first one and saying, "Ha ! You were wrong !" (After telling my pcp what this guy said, he kinda rolled his eyes and said that he wasn't suprised- he had sent me to him specifically for the upper endoscopy to test for Celiac - the gastro didn't even want to do the Celiac panel, thought it would be a waste of time.

In my humble opinion, I think we are all in a learning process, and that the best way to learn is by exchanging ideas, and also, that what works for one may not necessarily work for another !

Looking forward to gossiping lots and lots with all of you !

Love,
Carla

Hi, Carla. Welcome to the board! You have incredible references.

You do not know me yet. I cannot remember having posted before with you. It is nice to know someone new who shares the same as I have.

I have MC, in fact, LC and I am going to have my tests on gluten sensivity done. I really think I could have problems with gluten, maybe even celiac, who knows? Then we would share much more than just LC...

I am sure I will learn a lot from your experience & I am looking forward to it. Thank you for being here with us.
Should you need a conversation or compare experiences, just ask me.

Love,
Tessa.

Thank you for such kind words ! Don't worry, if you are gluten intolerant or Celiac (to me it is the same thing), the diet (I hate that word - we should say "the gluten free lifestyle - that doesn't sound so restrictive!)
anyway, avoiding gluten is not bad at all ! Take it from me as one that LOVED Subway sandwiches and biscuits & gravy, it just takes a little getting used to !

Although, I do still salivate when I pass Subway and hum to myself "precious memories"

Anyhoo, I look forward to getting to know you better !

Love,
Carla

Aahhhh, Carla

Talkin' 'bout Biscuits & Gravy made me go look to see where you are from. Came awfully close to Georgia talk in my opinion -
