Are We "Latent" Celiacs?

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Apparently we're not the only ones who think that celiac disease is improperly described, and diagnosed by obsolete criteria:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... t=Abstract

I found that reference in a long, (and very impressive), list of references, at the end of a very enlightening article on celiac disease. This article was published on March 1, 2006, and it's chock full of excellent information. What caught my eye, was the mention of "latent" celiac disease, which seems to fall under a classification that we often refer to as "celiac lite". The list of references that accompanies the article is, in itself, downright awesome. Here's that article:

http://www.ojrd.com/content/1/1/3

If you click on Table 1, you will see a pop-up with a definition of the seven different states of celiac disease, (including latent CD).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks tex.

It is good to know that the medical world is finally catching up with what we have known here for a long time!
