Question RE: Arthritis/CC

Post by annie oakley »

I have been keeping track of flares that I have. Skin conditions and arthritis flares. It seems to me that Whenever My Arthritis flares up and is painful it ususally is followed by a flare of ether mild D for a short time or skin irritations Ususally uncle arthur will flare first....my question is how many of you have had the same thing? I have had mouth sores that preceed the arthritis flare. It's all strange in a way. Just a thought and a question. Love Oma

Oma, I have noticed the same thing. It's been a long time since I have had a really bad flare, but I, too, keep track of how my arthritis does even when I have a mini flare. It does get worse. In fact, when my joints start to ache I can pretty well count on a loosening up of things in the nether regions. I don't know what to do about it.

Lots of love,

Sally

Have you ever tried removing nightshade vegetables from your diet? It works well for a significant number of people with arthritis; not everyone though. They are potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, curry spice, peppers of all kind (except black pepper), and tobacco. Those are the main ones that come to mind. www.noarthritis.com has more info. Or you could google the Solanaceae family of plants.

Given all the food intolerances we tend to have, it doesn't seem impossible that you could be reacting to nightshades with the A and the D.

Hi Oma,

Are you eating gluten? Your symptoms sound like an MC reaction to gluten.

Love,
Tex

I don't know about the gluetin, of course I haven't keep real good track of the gluetin lately. I thought I was being careful. I don't use tobacco any more, but I do eat peppers and tomatoes and potatoes. I may have to try doing without them for awhile.
And I will check out the web site Celia posted/ Love Oma

Hi Oma,

I haven't looked at the label on a box of Grapenut Flakes, for example, for many years, but I'm pretty sure that they're made from wheat, and therefore contain gluten. I don't believe that nightshades case skin problems, nor mouth sores.

Love,
Wayne

P S I noticed that you had listed Grapenut Flakes for breakfast, in another forum on this board.

Yeah you're right I did. I let that one get away from me. That would explain a couple things. I may have to give the flakes to SIL as she will eat nearly anything. Thanks for reminding me of the dreaded gluten. Pain can be a wake up call. Plus my family here reminding me, and that's what we do here, help each other.
I haven't ever had mouth sores from veggies before, so I think it has to be some hidden gluten. The flakes I just started eating yesterday or the day before, and I have had this problem for a couple months, therefore It has to be something else I eat that has gluten. Just a mater of finding out which food id the culprit. Love Oma
