Dr. Fines Lecture in Dallas, Texas on March 4, 2006

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Ok, I finally relocated the original press release in the news archives of Clan Thompson's celiac site, describing Dr. Fines presentation of March 4, 2006. If you've been wanting to see what was covered in that talk, here it is. There are some interesting statistics in this article:

P S I corrected, (updated), the link in the post about this lecture in the Current Research forum, also.
:cowboy:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Interesting indeed! I was watching "The View" last week - I never watch it but was folding laundry....they had a doctor on there (a naturopath perhaps? - I missed the intro) anyways he spoke of the inflammatory response and it's role in health issues and talked about dietary changes etc... he mentioned wheat/gluten as a contributor - his statistic was about 1% of people have been "diagnosed" as having a "wheat allergy" but another 30% of people don't know that is the cause of their health problems! Then one of the hosts went on to say almost everyone she "knows" has been told at some point or another that they have a problems with wheat, and that is is the trendy scapegoat with all of the low-carb trend blah, blah...but he replied is has been shown time and again to be a trigger for the inflammatory response....

Anyways, he was promoting a book - I may go to the show's site and see if I can find out the title - it was interesting to see "someone else" embrace the idea!

Mary

PS - found it - his book is called Ultrametabolism - it talks about using your genentic profile to tailor a weight loss program. His name is Dr. Mark Hyman - if you google him there is alot of info available...

I missed that show on The View where wheat affecting people's health was discussed. Elizabeth Hasselbeck, one of the hosts, has Celiac Disease and knows too well how wheat can be a poison to some of us.
Sylvia, Northern Minnesota - Do good or do not.

Hi all,

If they rerun it everywhere like they do down here on PBS,, you might be able to catch the video talk/s that Dr. Hyman did on this very topic. This is when they do the fund-raising in between the lectures.

I'm glad to see these people getting air time as it will tend to open people up to considering the inflammatory response when trying to get well or remain healthy.

Nice to hear something good came out of The View! How much did that host have to say about her own disease, by the way?

Yours, Luce
