Worried about you
I read the news some minutes ago:
State College, PA) - Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell today declared a disaster emergency and states of emergency have been declared in ten counties in New York State in response to the deadly flooding in the Mid-Atlantic. The flooding is being blamed for at least nine deaths, and has led to the evacuation of thousands of residents.
Fox News Channel and Associated Press are reporting nine storm-related deaths in Pennsylvania, New York and Maryland. Search crews in Maryland are looking for two teenagers who were reported missing on Tuesday after they went to a creek along the Frederick and Carroll county line. Search dogs and helicopters scoured the area after rescuers found a bicycle and clothing. In Virginia, teams searched for an 8-year-old girl swept away by floodwaters in Alleghany County.
More than 2,200 residents in Montgomery County, Maryland have been ordered to evacuate their homes because the Lake Needlewood dam is threatening to collapse. Flooding across eastern and central Pennsylvania has led to evacuations in a number of counties, including dozens who were plucked from rooftops by a State Police helicopter. Residents of low-lying areas of Virginia have been evacuated, even as volunteers stacked over 5 thousand pounds of sandbags.
Washington D.C. Mayor Tony Williams has declared a state of public emergency in the nation's capital.
I have no idea how many of you live in the flooded area, but I would like to know if you are Ok.
My worries are for Polly too.
I hope you are all safe and that these storms have not caused any harm to you, relatives and friends.
Love,
Tessa

Tessa,
My husband in northern Pa. went golfing this morning but he said it was pretty "soggy". One of the golfers drove through 2-3 ft. of water on the road in TWO places to get to the golf course. That is one crazy old man (it's a seniors golf league). Luckily, the golf course is atop a big hill.
The water the man drove through wasn't like a moving stream or anything but I still wouldn't have wanted to drive across it.
Anyway. he said there was sun there today. This is about 30 miles west of Binghamton, NY. There was/is flooding there and also in a small town very near us - Athens, Pa. There were evacuations there due to the flooding of the Susquehana river. In a nearby town (Towanda, Pa.), they expect the river to crest at 28 ft. above flood level around 1 AM tonight.
Luckily, Towanda is also built on a hill so it won't flood as much of the town as you might think.
I hope I got all that straight.
Love, Shirley

Hi Tessa,
I am in Southeastern PA and it has been very bad here but Frank and I are safe and sound in our pretty dry over-55 community. There are a lot of people 5 miles from us that have lost a lot. 2 people I work with have been badly affected - 1 lost their front porch and had a flooded basement and the other lost their basement wall when the water surged through. The worst part of her predicament was that her husband had a very nice woodworking shop down there - it is a very old stone basemented house - and when she went down to clean up a nest of spiders that had lived in the old stone well covered her and she was bit quite badly. The Emergency Room had never seen spiders like them - they live in the dark and had probably been there for years. She is now recovering and the swelling is going done.
Hopefully all rivers will crest by late today and then the clean-up can start.
Love, Maggie
