Has anyone read this book on food additives?

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,

I just saw that there was a book called, "Food Additives, A Shopper's Guide to What's Safe and What's Not." This was the second edition that was mentioned.

Think author's name was Christine Harlow, or was it Barlow?? Drat!

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone had read it or heard anything about it, primarily to find out if it contains anything we've not already talked about in this group at some time of another.

I wonder how it's set up, and what it covers??? Hmm.

Yours, Luce

LUCE-----

Years back, after being diagnosed with MCC, I came across this book titled
A CONSUMERS DICTIONARY of FOOD ADDITIVES --author RUTH WINTER-

I found it very helpful cus I could UNDERSTAND what the ingrediants were etc.---easier for me-----

It gives definitions for the layman of Ingrediants, harmful and desireable, found in Packaged Foods--
Complete info for us--the consumer--
She has other books on health---some are--
Poisons in Your Food
Beware of the Food U eat
Consumers Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingrediants
Cancer-causing Agents--

The only info I have is
Crown Publishers,Inc.
201 East 50th Street
New York, New York 10022

As I bought this book waaaaaaaay back , I dont know if this CROWN is still publishing--and if I recall correctly, I bought this book in COSTCO--

Let me know what U find--

Luve Barbara

PS. to add--there are a few introductory pages then covers from A to Z--
350 pages worth--

This book is my bible
I dont *get it?* I grab this book~~~~~

PSSS. there is where I found out about SORBITOL--cus I was always into the *sugar-free* stuff --yup---I chewed a whole pack of sugar-free gum(one after the other) one day---(cus I luve chewing) and boy did I suffer for it---
I think there are no more PS'S

Hahahaha...I KNOW it's no joke...when I was on my strict low carb diet, I went to Trader Joe's and found wonderful low carb candy bars...well, I was so hungry for chocolate, I ate 2 (they were small)...but....barely made it home, if you know what I mean....wow...that was a tough lesson about sorbitol !

 Happy 4th of July! JJ

Lucy,

I've looked at a lot of food additive books and not one of them mentioned what the additive was made from. DUH!

Let me know if you find one.

Love, Jean
