I took a Tuesday drive out in the country and found a place where I could pick strawberries. I took a piece of carpet I keep in the trunk of the car to keep it clean and I put it on the ground. I crawled around until I had picked about a quart of strawberries which is plenty for me. There were lots of Hispanic families there and I watched the kids running around and jumping over the rows. Moms and Dads and I laughed.
Then I went to a little town called Newberg and found a fruit and vegetable stand and bought some zucchini that were so frensh they were still dirty!! Beautiful apricots and blueberries and green beans. Guess what I am going to be eating the next few days?
It was a beautiful day. The road wound through the woods and down past farms and a couple of vineyards and lots of orchards. Peaches? Flags were out everywhere and people were happy. Me, too.

Thanks for taking me on the trip too!! I just picked fresh zucchini last night from the ones we have in large pots and they were fantastic. Also growing strawberries but just get a few at a time since it only 1 pot with a dozen plants.
I would have loved to been with you on that drive.

Since you are growing zucchini in a pot, Maggie, I am going to do what I have been threatening to do for years this fall. I am going to get myself a big pot and grow GARLIC. I do miss having my own garlic to eat.
I have rosemary and thyme and sage and oregano and tarragon. Those are in the ground and are perennials. I grow basil every year, but I need GARLIC to make pesto!!!
I am now going to have breakfast of yogurt and apricots and strawberries.

Blueberry molasses pudding for dessert tonight. I found my mother's old recipe. Yum yum. With lemon sauce to go on top.

Oooo....blueberry molasses pudding? With lemon sauce? Sounds devine! Can you share the recipie? I won't have my own blueberries this year, but last year our admin assistant traded me blueberries for raspberries. I've started my own blueberries, but alas, it does take a few years to get the plants big enough to produce enough to make putting up the deer/turkey fencing worthwhile.

The strawberries are incredible. Small and local and RIPE. It took me forever to shuck them, but they are worth the effort. Like tomatoes. The ones you get in the store taste like cardboard. I will never buy anything but local again. Or frozen ones.

Sounded like a wonderful day. I can't pick strawberries, though, because people with bionic knees aren't allowed to kneel. Now does that make sense? You would think that when you have such drastic surgery they should be able to make it work the way it's supposed to, but kneeling is definetely a no-no. Oh well, I don't have to scrub the floors on my hands and knees either - we have to look at the bright side of things (haha). We've been enjoying the strawberries too but they're almost finished now and the raspberries are in season now, as are the blueberries. Our local berry festival starts tomorrow, so I'll go there to see what others have picked for me to bring home. Yum, yum!!!
I'm finally serious about organizing my craft room. Made an attempt at it a few months ago, but got tired. Now the spirit has moved me and it's cooler weather right now, so I spent the day in here yesterday and will be back at it today after a short trip to the bank. It's amazing to see how much I really have in here - actually, kind of alarming. It will take me a long time to use all this stuff, but I think I'm pretty well set for the rest of the year.
Off to the Chilliwack Blues Festival at the end of July. My Sister and I are going to share a booth there to hawk our wares. It's going to be three days of fun and I'm sure looking forward to it. We went to a one evening one in a small town near us and it was a blast. The bands were great and the best one will be going to the one at the end of this month also, so the place will be rocking.

Hi Sally,
I picked a couple flats last week. Two for the box, one for me . . two for the box, one for me. I came home with the worst sore throat! A few days later I ate the cleaned berries again (fourth of July with family) and after just 3-4 berries got a raw throat again. A few days later ate watermelon and 2 bites gave me a sore on my tongue.
Cantaloupe has always done similar things to me. Oranges for the last year have made me nauseous at the first bite.
Now I'm wondering if I'm developing a problem with other fruits. However, I drink lemon and lime juice daily with no problem at all. Have you ever heard of such a weird problem?
This is something that seems unrelated to MC, because it's not gas or diarrhea as the issue, but more like an allergy or acidity problem.
This is trivial, but your strawberry picking brought it to mind, and you've collected a lot of experiences with all of us, so I thought maybe you'd run across something like this before.
I'm glad you're stopping to smell the flowers. I mean fruits and vegetables
