Hi ALL,
I am finally starting to feel a little better after last Saturday's gluten contamination. I went to my son's basketball game yesterday evening just like I had done last Saturday. I went to the ladies room and then washed my hands with the liquid soap there when it dawned on me that this soap could have done the nasty contamination to me. I take food with me to the games and may have gone from my hands to the food to my mouth. Am I being too paranoid or is this what you all have learned to be careful of? Do I need to pack my own soap or do you think this is such a remote possibility to ever have caused me a problem? I don't want to get too crazy if I don't have to. Thanks.
Love,
Cristi

Cristi,
Like I said, sometimes I feel like Monk, but instead of germs, it's my intolerances I'm afraid of.
No, you're not being paranoid, the soap probably did it. Can you just rinse your hands better and then wipe them with paper towel? This may be gross, but I usually don't use soap in public restrooms because of that very thing. I just rinse. I figure that the soap is more of a threat to my health than anything I may have touched. Especially if you're eating right after that.
This just happened to me: My daughter cut up a melon and put it in a bowl in the frig. I ate a few pieces and then realized that she used the cutting board that I had spilled a little bird feeding formula on and she handn't washed it off. Luckily I wasn't contaminated, but very easily could have. Darn gluten spreaders, LOL.
I hope you've found the problem. Love, Jean

Be kind to everyone, because you never know what battles they are fighting.
Cristi,
I also think there's a good chance that you may have found the problem. Hands are notorious for carrying germs and viruses to our mouths, so it's not difficult to visualize how the soap could have contaminated your food.
Excellent detective work!

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
