Found myself with my arms around a total stranger

Post by Carol Arnett »

I went up to see Harry this morning and he is doing a little better. With a good doc and prayers I believe he is going to get through this.

On my way down in the elevator there was a man around 55 years old who remarked how awful if was to have to be here. I agreed with him and he said "of course, it is so much worse for my wife". About that time he started to cry and when the elevator stopped, he sat down on a bench and I sat down beside him. He told me his wife had cancer and started bawling. I found myself with my arms around his shoulders trying to comfort him. When he got himself under control, he thanked me and said it was so hard.

In the end, it made me feel so much better about Harrys` condition. If you look around or listen you can always find someone else so much worse off than you or your problems. I hope I was a little bit of comfort to this gentle man. Love, Carol

You're an angel, Carol. I'll bet he thought so, too.

Thanks for sharing that. I have to admit that it brought tears to my eyes, also.

I'm glad to see that Harry is doing better. We appreciate the update.

Love,
Tex

Thank you for sharing that, Carol, and I'm sure it made the man feel better. There isn't much more a person can do in that situation. I have tears in my eyes too.

What you did for that elderly gentleman was what we are all put her to do, show compassion and care for another. You were so sweet to do that for him, he needed to cry on someone's shoulder. Tex is right you are an angel, you just don't have wings yet. Love Oma :bigbighug:

Carol,

I am also crying, but they are tears of comfort knowing that there are still people/angels like you around. I'm sure you gave that gentleman the strength to dry the tears and be a comfort and strength to his wife. I'll say a prayer for that family tonight too.

I believe that we should always give a smile, touch, hug or word of comfort - it may be the one thing that that person needed to take one more step and continue on.

I'm glad Harry is improving. Know that you are both in my prayers. Remember to take a minute or two for you each day - you can't take care of anyone else if you are down and out.

All my love,
Mars

Carol,

Mars is right - we are all angels just waiting to happen and for this man you were his angel. There are no coincidences in life - quote Oprah - and you were meant to be there for him. Thank you for helping him.

Love, Maggie
