Biopsy results are in!
Well my GI did a colonoscopy last friday and he said he saw nothing of any concern. Then the biopsies came back and they were ALL negative (from rectum to right colon). I just got back from a barium swallow exam and I should get those results back sometime next week.
So my question is "Where did that inflammation go that my first GI saw?" Could the Entocort make the biopsy results completely negative? And finally... could I just have that gluten and casien intolerance that made caused the inflammation and now that I am off gluten I am healing?

Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!

Andrew,
Eliminating gluten and casein from your diet should put a stop to the inflammation in your colon and allow it to heal. It apparently healed pretty quickly, but I suppose that's not so surprising since you started treatment promptly, (with meds), and you have the healing advantage of being relatively young. It's certainly possible that the 7 weeks that you have been GF, were sufficient to allow complete healing.
To be honest, I really don't know if Entocort actually stops inflammation in the colon, or just covers the body's reactions to it, but I don't believe that it would cause the biopsy results to be invalid. IOW, if your biopsies show no evidence of inflammation, then I think it is safe to assume that no inflammation was present when the samples were taken.
Maybe Polly can shed some light on this when she checks in. I think she's out enjoying a trip to the mountains, and communing with nature a bit.

P S By the way, congratulations-- negative biopsy reports are always good news.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Yes Tex-
The negative biopsies are good news! So maybe the diet did take away the small amount of inflammation that was there about 1.5 years ago... If it truely is the diet to blame for this success, then so be it I can live without gluten and milk.

Hi Terps!
Great news! Congrats!
Since there was no evidence of inflammation, I do think that you have had a quick and excellent response to diet. This is terrific! Nothing like having absolute proof that you are on the right track.
The Entocort may also have played a role. It does subdue the inflammatory response, and the hallmark of MC is inflammation. I recall Dr. Fine telling me that if someone was on prednisone, it could "mask" the results of his tests. In other words, it could cause the stool test for anti-gliadin (gluten) antibodies to be falsely normal or borderline, even if gluten intolerance were present. Thus, if steroids can cause a decrease in actual antibodies, there would no longer be a reason for lymphocytic infiltation, the hallmark of inflammation.
Keep up the good work!
Love,
Polly

Hello all-
Yes I really hope that it is the diet doing the job. I still have some days with lots of gas, some nausea, and some cramping. I am assuming that this is all still normal because i think my body is still healing.

Hi Andrew,
My tests a year after the initial colonoscopy were negative for inflammation also. Remember not to get lulled into the mindset that you're cured. The minute you eat any of your trigger foods it will all be back. Despite any doc who says it may have been a misdiagnosis, or you're cured, etc, I wouldn't believe him (based on myself, anyway).

Oh believe me I dont consider myself cured as I will always be on a GFCF diet for as long as I live. So on the other forum I post, some said that my biopsies could be negative because I was in remission not that I was cured or didnt have anything. Well I believe I have MC and the diet is working well.
