Question for anybody.......

Post by Maureen »

Does anybody see a chiropractor?
If so, How do you feel about them?

I started going last week for my migraines and they claim they have a 95% success rate in curing them.

I've always been skeptical, but I want to give it a try.

He cracks my neck and back, a little uncomfortable but I feel fine afterwards.

MO

p.s. He also claims he can cure digestive ailments by releasing a compressed nerve in the back that leads to the digestive organs......??????

Hi Maureen,

I did see a couple: one who worked by cracking, and another who worked in a more gentle way, "pushing" vertabrae around to get them into allignment. The first made a lot of similar claims, but in order to get results like that he wanted extended treatments: 2-3 times a week for 6 months or more. Thousands of dollars. That particular doctor couldn't even fix my lower back after a fall, and I saw him many times. Finally, after 2-3 years, I saw a physical therapist who tried a chiropractic "move" on me that popped one of my legs so it wasn't jammmed into the hip socket anymore (I had fallen on ice and landed on my side right where your leg bends at the hip). She said she could get in trouble for doing it, because physical therapists aren't technically supposed to manipulate bones, but it worked. She was wonderful.

That's the long and short of it - I hope you're feeling good today!

I know people who swear by them and I know people who have had damage done because of them. I went to one for a few weeks because I was having unresolved back pain and at first I was telling him how I felt, then I got to that skeptical point where I'd wait to see how he thought my back looked and when he was saying it was holding better, and I was still having the same pain, I quit going. Turns out, I think the pain was either a gluten reaction or my endometriosis, because I really don't get the pain anymore now that the endo is gone and I'm reasonably gf.

Marsha, I have to laugh at your PT story because my Mom had a similar thing done by a PT (her back used to get all crunched up from sitting at a small, kid sized table for her job) and now when it acts up she has my Dad do the same thing. I'm not suggesting allowing non-chiropactic folks do these things to you, but if you have one who can help, what the heck.

Personally I don't like them and have had some bad experiences. But I've heard the same...some people swear by them.

I used a *cracking-good doctor* for years---- and when I had an issue he did help me---

First he took X-rays to see the spine and neck area----and from that he could see the mis-alignment--

I had no problems---but I also know of some that really didnt get any results--

I havent been to one since I started with this MC-----cus there is an area in the back---that when adjusted---WOULD cause---a swift movement!!

So I said *enuf* of that

Barbara

PS. I do these floor Xercises that are for back and just strengthening the *bode*

Like any Dr, there are good ones and bad ones. I'd find one that someone else recommends.

I tend to lean towards ART (Active Release Therapy) ones. They seem to know a lot more about muscle and bone. Most of the issues are with muscles not with bones. You can find a local ART dr (if there are any in your area) by using the search on the http://www.activerelease.com/ website.

When I last hurt my low back doing Dead Lifts, I could barely bend over to tie my shoes. After 1 session I was already well enough to start lifting again, and after about 6 or so sessions was 99% recovered.
