GFCF colitis sensative cold medications

Post by thedell19 »

I am starting to have a cold; my first one in about 8 months! Thats good for me! Anyways I know some cold medications like from advil are not good for MCers... so is like tylenol cold and sinus ok? I have been taking Ziacam which is usually really good but my throat hurts so I am looking for something that soothes the throat.

Thanks all!
Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!

As far as I can tell, the only problems with the Tyleonl Cold formulation is the corn starch, (and one or two other minor corn derivatives), which, of course, all Tylenol contains. So, unless you are corn intolerant, it should be okay for you to take. The Extra Strength versions also contain mannitol, a sugar alcohol, which has a history of causing problems for some people, though the problems may not be MC related.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Mike

So sorry to hear that you feel like you are coming down with a cold. What a nuisance. Particularly in the summer when their are so many other things to do.

I used to take things like Echinacea or a product distributed from Colorado called “Cold Snap” www.ohco.com It contains soy that I do not dare take any more despite that the combination would stop a cold dead in its tracks. I question taking Echinacea now in that it stimulates the immune system. My research on the web would indicate that it is not the best idea to take Echinacea or other immune stimulating herbs when you have an overactive immune system already (ie. MC) I have not had a cold in ten years and I suspect that it is because my immune system is in overdrive all the time.

As you have so wisely pointed out in recent posts many drugs simply mask symptoms of MC. Over the counter cold medicines simply mask the symptoms of a cold. You might feel better but it is still their. IMHO the best thing to do is rest, get plenty of sleep , drink plenty of fluids, particularly things that are easy to digest like soups and stocks. In the summer they need not be hot. Cold soups and consume can be very refreshing even on the hottest of days. Treat yourself to a sauna if your sinuses are clogged. Eat plenty of the things that you have found easiest to digest. Your body is being challenged. Don't challenge it more until you begin to feel better. Don’t challenge it more with somethig that masks symptoms while you wear yourself out trying to do everything you do when you are well . My very simple assumption is that the body wants to heal its self. So relax and let it. It will!

To your recovery,

Matthew
