U HAVE TO READ---KAIT

I now believe that I am crazy----

Lynn called---and KAIT is remaining in the hospital---

They have an ICP PROBE in her head---watching her pressure----thats why she is NOT COMING HOME!!!!

Being the weekend---a neuro. inter popped in to see the ICP readings--
AND he said to LYNN something is wrong here----glory be--an intern to say IT-- BECAUSE her cranial pressure is fluctuating way up--and then waaaaaaay down!!!

Now---what is WRONG---he says NOT the shunting BUT with KAIT

Well what the hell does he mean by that statement----is there something that all these frigging docs. have been missing --is there something else going wrong inside of Kait!!!!!! I am @ a total loss for words!!!!

I swear---I am ready to Xplode~~~~

ANYBODY---got comments?????

Im going to bed----cause if I didnt know I was here in this world I would think I am in a Sci-Fi movie!!!!

Barbara,

Because brain tissue and spinal fluid are basically incompressible, the volume of blood, spinal fluid, and brain, within the cranium at any given time must be constant. Whenever the intra-cranial pressure, (ICP), rises , therefore, cranial blood vessels are compressed, (which effectively forces blood out ot the cranium), and when the ICP decreases, the cranial blood vessels are decompressed, (which allows more blood to be present in the cranium.

The opposite effect is also true--IOW, if the cranial blood vessels expand, then the ICP rises. And, when less blood is present in the cranium, the ICP diminishes.

I'm guessing that the intern was referring to this relationship when he made his remark. IOW, blood volume fluctuations in the cranium might possibly be causing the changes in the ICP, for example.

This is just a WAG, since I'm not a neurologist, but the laws of physics apply to the cranium, just as they apply anywhere else, so ICP fluctuations are actually an engineering problem--specifically a bio-engineering problem. Surely all the doctors involved are aware of this, though.

Wayne---I understand all that U posted---after all these years I had better understand

I know that the workings can either be Over-draining or Under draining to use my words but this intern made it sound as though there is something else going on with Kait???

The shunt has been redone--undone---taken out--new ones--other types put back in all parts of her body---and STILL they mal-function!!!

PS. they better get a NEWER ENGINEER--with a better TOOL equipment and perhaps a DIAGRAM to follow the workings of the PRESSURES

What a roller coaster of a ride Kait and everone who cares about her is riding.............It must be really hard to stay positive.....but you have to or you'll fall apart.....right?

Well, Maybe this intern is on to somehting. Maybe Kait has another, normally minor issue, that is creating issues for her because of all this head stuff. Beats me, but what Wayne said is true about it all being a big physics problem. Thing being, there are so many different components that might have an effect, it does boggle our non-MD minds, and apparently the MDs too.

Can Lynn ask for this comment to be followed up on? We all know the shunt changes etc, don't seem to be the smoking gun. When was the last total physical without focusing on the head that Kait had?

I hope this all settles down so she can start college this fall with no issues. When is she supposed to start school?

Maybe Katy is on to something. Maybe Kait needs an ENGINEER. Or a nuclear physicist to treat her instead of MDs.

Yes, I hope that Lynn tracks down that intern and gets more information out of him. What DID he mean???

I am so sorry that Kait is having problems again. But we will all think positively about this and that it is merely a bump in the road.

Maybe the Intern will dig into this and find out what really is going on and fix it!

Lots of love and hugs Barb. It would be nice if there were some answers, but we know that sometimes we have to go one step at a time, one day at a time. I know you have been walking that way for so long now but it just HAS to change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping that maybe this intern is on to something that others have missed. Hopefully they will find an answer SOOOOOOOOOON.
