setback- GLUTENED
Well to make a long story short I believe I got glutened at a bbq this past weekend (saturday).
Sunday I felt all around crappy, stomach a little crampy, and me being grumpy.
Monday I felt a bit worse during the morning, still had somewhat of a normal BM felt a little better in the afternoon.
Didnt feel so good this morning and BM getting a bit softer.
What am I in for in the upcoming days if I was in fact glutened?

Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast
Maybe its UC maybe its MC? Who knows at this point, but at least I know my intollerances now... so heres to the road to healing!

Oh no........GLUTENED! Happens to the best of us, Terps, and not just when we first start the diet. Any idea what the culprit was?
For me, the episodes would last a few days when I first went GF. But as time went on, the episodes became much shorter - now a day or even less. Sometimes just one softer B.M. after ingesting some hidden gluten.
I hope it's shortlived!
Love,
Polly

Oh geez that makes me feel so much better.
The culprit was my own stupidity, my wife was drinking a beer at the bbq and I kissed her not knowing she was having beer. Oh no! I hope it is short lived... I hear some people recover quickly while others are set back for over a week.

Andrew, you just have to stop french kissing your wife like that!!!!
Exactly what else did you have to eat and drink? It possibly could be something else that's bothering your system.
Hang in there!
Love,
Joanna
PS- is it really possible to be glutenized by a kiss?

Andrew,
You need to get one of those "Beer Makes Me Poop" bumper stickers! LOL! It seems that the longer you are GF the shorter the reaction (probably because of the drop-off in the number of gluten antibodies over time).
Joanna - yes, you can be glutened by kissing. I read an article about this. A man who was on a GF diet kept getting sick and they traced it to kissing his fiancee, who was Italian and eating pasta almost every day.

Joanan-
Dont count on that happening any time soon!
We grilled on my friends grill - I put tin foil where I grilled my chicken and used my own tongs and marinade. I drank gatorade and a couple sips of a coke ( I do believe coca cola is GF).

How do you know you are intolerant to eggs, soy and yeast? Did you take Dr Fine's tests?
How do you know about lettuce etc?
Yeah I am looking forward to those hour sicknesses.
I know you were having trouble with your diet... what are you eating now?

Hi Andrew,
Yes, I took Dr. Fines' test. I was having problems well before MC and had taken a blood allergy test and was diagnosed with those allergies at that time. The blood test indicated eggs, bakers yeast, and dairy, but never showed the gluten.
I'm still eating the same stuff....chicken ,fish. well cooked veggies and a little fruit. I feel a lot better...but my stools are still only softly formed. I started a probiotic today...so hoping for some improvement. I'm glad you are doing so well. I'll catch up soon .
Love,
Cristi

My reaction to gluten, or any of my intolerances, is always the same; 48 hours of feeling yucky and then boom, I feel great again. The D is getting to be less, but the 48 hours remains the same.
Hope you're over it soon! I'm impressed how careful you were at the BBQ.
Love, Jean

.
Hi there,
I feel really bad, have D 30 hours later, and then I'm fine again. Except that my stomach will be more sensitive to hard to digest foods for even a couple weeks. It's like getting a burn on your arm: the scab is healed after a couple days, but the skin stays red and inflamed for quite a while after.
I had a question about Coke, though. I thought the caramel coloring in brown sodas was gluten derived . .

Hi Marsha,
The caramel color can be made from wheat, but usually it's made from corn in this country.

Straight from the "horses mouth":Corn starch hydrolysate, that is, corn syrup of high dextrose equivalent is employed most frequently by the caramel color industry.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Andrew,
I was just getting ready to ask you what was in the BBQ sauce, but I see you just used your own marinade for flavor.
As you probably already know, BBQ sauces generally will contain either non-gf soy sauce, or beer, and sometimes non-gf Worcheshire sauces although some of the latter are gf.
Since you brought your own chicken, is it the non-injected kind?
Other than seafood, meats and fowl are one of the biggest issues I face when eating other people's food or restaurant foods as they never know anything about the meat prior to when it's delivered or sold at a store.
Foil should've protected the meat from contamination. Wow, you've just made me hungry!
Did you eat any of the food served there that you didn't take with you to the BBQ?
By the way, foil wrapped veggies would've been an easy yet delicious thing to take with you for a side dish. Is that what you did?
There are all sorts of grilling sauce recipes you see on sale at groceries, bookstores, and places where grills are sold these days.
With those, all you have to do is find one that can be made into something safe using gf ingredients, of course.
Another thought I had was that you might've gotten some sort of bacterial thing from off the grill, but that's not likely due to the foil.
Also, you know how deathly ill people can get from eating potato salad at picnics, or green beans kept at the wrong temperatures and salinities for too long.
You would probably know the difference in that and a simple gluting cause ya wouldn't feel nearly as bad as food poisoning.
Tell the wife that from now on, no hanky panky after pasta, beer, etc.
That'll learn 'er! Haha!
Hope you recover quickly.
Yours, Luce

Luce-
The only other thing I ate was the potato salad that I made and I ate it right when we took it out of the fridge. The chicken as non-injected and natural chicken w/ some retained water.
I think it was from kissing my wife...
