Hi all,
Just wondering if any of you have seen any of this series of PBS programs?
Zonya is a registered dietician who has a thirty minute program every weekday here, and possibly at other times as well of which I'm not aware.
At any rate, I really like the way the program is done, even though it's geared for persons on regular diets.
At the very beginning, she's sort of on stage doing a sort of monolog with a "live" audience, and then there's a sort of introduction that introduces a sort of theme throughout the program in terms of the food part, anyway.
First, she takes the viewer along with her to the grocery store, and picks things out to show the viewer how to go about reading labels, and what to look for.
Then, she takes the viewer back to the kitchen, and demonstrates making certain "Lickety Split" recipes which generaly consist of things that are commonly eaten, only they are made in much healthier ways.
One of the neat things that she does is to actually hold up the amount of either fat or sugar or salt that would not be consumed if one were to switch from the usual way of making something to the way she demonstrates.
Seems to me that would really make an impression on some people -- nothing like a visual!
Sometimes she'll give little tips in terms of how to keep things from wasting, etc. Also, how to help children learn to like certain veggies, etc., like sneaking increasing amounts of frozen chopped spinach into the spagetti sauce until they eventually acquire a taste for spinach.
She said the kids think it's something like one of the spices when they first see just a little of it, so they don't mind eating it if they see it.
I think she actually through it into the food processor to make it even smaller before throwing it into the spagetti sauce.
I even bought a package of frozen chopped spinach at a local Safeway owned grocery here, and would you believe it, it was also organic. How lucky could I be?!!
OK , so when all this food stuff is finished, she introduces some exercise physiology type to give specific exercises for specific areas of the body. These aren't usually the standard two plus two either, and they are generally fairly easy to do.
One lady even demonstrated some exercises that could be done in the kitchen during short waits for things while cooking, like waiting for water to boil for instance.
Zonya even mentioned one time that gluten/wheat immune problems weren't all that unusual.
Anyway, I just thought if you wanted to see something like this, you might check out your local tv guide in the newspaper for the time and dates?
Yours, Luce
