Disturbing News
Well, I'm a bit upset with the "system" right now.
One of the folks in the Community Band I play in is battling ovarian cancer. She has had surgery, is undergoing chemo and is facing more surgery and probably more chemo. But despite it all she has been given an 80% chance of survival.
She is an emergency room nurse. And a really good one. She took care of me when I had my crisis last year.
Well, she was just let go from her job because her 12 weeks of family/medical leave is up. This means no insurance (although I suspect her husband has some). They told her she could re-apply when she is ready to come back.
Damn healthcare system that can't even support one of its own during their time of need. We really need to fix this "system".

That is inexcusable on the part of the hospital.
My neice was a nurse in Critical Care when she was in the auto accident a couple of years ago. She had severe injuries and almost lost her foot. She will never walk right again and cannot return to nursing because she can't be on her feet that much. The hospital bent over backwards to accomodate her and keep her on payroll just so she wouldn't lose her senority, etc. When all other options ran out they let her come in for 3 hours a week (her choice of hours - even 1/2 hr at a time) just so she could still be "working" there. I was amazed at how they did everything they could for her. She is working 40 hr a week now at a job that they created for her.
So, I believe it is the hospital's choice how they handle these things. Your friend really got worked over, I think. I'm very sorry. I'm upset for her also.
Love, Shirley

Wow! What a world of difference between the way Shirley's niece was treated, and the way Katy's friend was treated. That's incredible.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Katy,
What hospital does your friend work for? Glad to hear her husband has health insurance, that might be why they backed out like that. However, it's disheartening....
