Is amylase derived from gluten? It is in my digestive enzyme product and on teh bottle it says contains no gluten or dairy but someone on a different forum told me it wasnt gluten free.

Andrew,
I agree with Polly. Amylase hydrolyzes starches, (and dextrin and glycongen). Your source from the other forum was probably confused by this action on starches. As long as you're not eating any wheat starch, (or rye, or barley), the amylase is not going to hydrolyze it. LOL.
They probably were confused by descriptions such as on this site, which mentions the way that malt amylase is commonly used to digest the starch in barley.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks Tex. The person on the other forum states that it says that it is not gluten free on the inside of the box... well when I ordered the enzyme in bulk I through away all the boxes and just kept the bottles. I am off to the store to check them out... I think the local health food store carries it.
