I'll be flying on Sunday
Just as a passenger though.
I'm taking Chan (grandson - 10 yrs old) with me to Pa for 2 weeks. He doesn't even remember ever being there. A chance to spend some time with Grandpa and find out if he enjoys "communing with nature" since there isn't much else to do up there without traveling a ways and neither Grandpa or I are much into doing that. Bad Grandma!!
It's time he found out there is another way to live.........He may not like it but at least he will know it's out there.
Anyway, I'll still be able to check in every day.
Love, Shirley

Thanks everyone. Right now I'm keeping a close eye on T.S. Chris ... Hoping it doesn't interfere with our plans. Actually, I suppose I'm hoping it visit's Cuba instead of Florida. Feeling kinda self-centered for feeling that way but..............what can I say.

Morning Shirley,
Well at least the 100 degree weather is supposed to break tomorrow and only be in the upper 80x to 90. The weather in PA has really been unbearable and I yearn to be in England with the grandsons but that is only 2 weeks away today.
Have a great time.
Love, Maggie

Shirley,
Please be safe and keep a close eye on that hurricane.
Do you have any nature activities planned? LOL! I used to have such fun with lightning bugs, exploring the woods and stream, "dyeing" Queen Anne's lace with food dye, etc. Is Chan a "tech" kid like so many of them are nowadays?
I'll be worried about you and Chan until we hear an update.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Well, T.S. Chris seems to be fading away. Hoping that continues but looks like it won't affect us even if it doesn't. Cuba will be happy though.
Maggie,
I sure hope the weather breaks for Pa and all the states that are suffering with the heat and humidity. I wish you could be in England right now too but at least you can look forward to it. Hope you have a wonderful trip and visit.
Polly,
Yes, Chan is pretty much a "techie". Hoping he will learn to enjoy Mother Nature while he is in Pa. Daughter and family are in Tennessee this week on vacation and she told me they saw 3 deer quite close up. She said the kids really loved it so I'm hopeful. Chan has a sister who is 14 but I haven't even considered taking her because she would go absolutely crazy up there so far from the "mall" and her friends. I don't think I could deal with the "moods" etc. Chan just seems a lot easier. I AM a bad Grandma!!!

Hi Shirley and all,
We're still watching and waiting to see if the very warm waters Chris is headed into will bring him back to hurricane range before he reaches his final destination. Not only are those coastal waters very warm, but the warm waters are very deep from what I've been hearing, which is not in our favor.
One good thing that happened though was that the top was removed from this storm which tends to make them lighten up a good bit.
The webtv utilizes this tv screen, so I'm about to switch back to the news to see what's going on if they'll give the weather right away.
OK, got the report right at 5 am.
Spead of the winds is still hanging around in the 40's and expected to continue at that speed. Trajectory is straight toward Brownsville, the southernmost city on the Texas coast, but the influence could begin as far east as the Texas-Lousiana border, and of course, a long way down the eastern coast of Mexico.
In Houston we don't take trophical storms lightly -- remember T.S. Allison, the Flood of 2001, that flooded practically the whole city?
Trophical storms can be some nasty business! Too bad the thing can't disapate into a massive sprinkler system and cover all the drought areas with perfect showers.
I suppose everyone's seen the flooding over in El Paso of the Rio Grande -- what a mess!
Anyway, unless this thing, Chris stalls in the Gulf for some reason, he should show up on the Texas or Mexican coast around Wednesday.
Sure hope I have some idea what he's going to be like in time to know whether or not to leave here with Mom.
I'd hate to stay here, and have the thing intensify to a hurricane right before it hit the coast. Hurricane or not, we can't stay here for any length of time without power, so I'll still have to have evacuation plans, and leave very early. Woe is me!
Have fun, Shirley. I would've loved a trip like that when I was a child.
Good Gramma!
Yours, Luce

Luce,
I'm so sorry I've been so self centered about T.S. Chris (now a Tropical Depression). I was hoping it would just go away but I am aware that if it is still active by the time it hits the Gulf that it could cause major problems for Texas. I never meant to be insensitive to that fact. If it took a major turn north it could also cause problems for Pensacola where my son & family live.
I think no matter where you live right now, there are weather problems to contend with. Heat, drought, too much rain, hurricanes, tornados, and with the added problems you face with the care of your Mother it certainly intensifies your problems.
My thoughts and well wishes are with you.....
Love, Shirley

Have a great trip, Shirley
I'm envoius - a trip with your grandson. It's so special to spend time with them. We had a few camping trips with Sara (now 16) and enjoyed it immesely. Kevin (our 13 year old grandson) has only gone on trips with us with Mom and Dad along. We had a big tent trailer that accommodated all of us and that was fun. Kevin isn't into going alone with us. He loves us dearly, but when he was younger didn't want to leave home withour his Mom and Dad. Sara is more adventurous that way - she loves to travel.
Have a wonderful time.
