Maggie
This is so sad. Susan Butcher lost her greatest battle today. Google for news.

This article was in the mornings paper and is also posted on her website www.susanbutcher.com
I've met her a number of times at community functions over the years- quite a woman. She was running the iditarod during the years Maggie was volunteering on the trail. Have any stories to share Maggie?
I grieve for her husband and two small daughters.
Love,
Joanna

I am very, very saddened for her and her family. I worked in Susan's camp for 2 weeks the first year she won the Iditroid - 1986. It was hard work but such a wonderful experience to be with a woman of such integrity and determination. I am honored to have known her and also her faithful companions - her dogs. Serving them chow was an experience and the slobber from their thank you kisses could freeze one's face.
I will truly miss her and the mushing world will too. Maggie

How fortunate you were able to work with her Maggie. I can just picture her dogs licken your face as your feeding them, frozen slobber and all and you loving it...,..what a special experience.
She was indeed the greatest pioneer for women breaking into the mushing world.
Love,
Joanna
