Chan and I got here just fine. The flight from West Palm to Philly was looooong, but that was the only tiresome part.
Unfortunately, he isn't feeling well so he hasn't explored too much yet. Hopfully he will be back to normal tomorrow and ready to go.
He's already seen a Mama Deer & two Fawns.
Love, Shirley

Shirley,
Glad you're home safely. There is a virus making the kiddie rounds right now - causes a day or so of lethargy, headache, and fever. Seems to be gone within 24 hours, so let's hope that is what Chan has. Interesting name, Chan. Is it a nickname for anything?
Love,
Polly

Hi Polly,
His main problem seems to be intestinal pain/cramps at times I believe. How do you get a 10 year old boy to tell you what hurts and what it feels like? He's not too forthcoming. Says it started Saturday night but not as bad yesterday or today as it was then. He hardly eats and mainly just laying around. No fever I don't believe.
Chan is short for Chandler. Not my favorite "boy" name but they didn't ask me for some wierd reason. The boy himself is a sweetheart though.

Shirley-
My 10 yo was feeling badly last weekend - he said his stomach hurt (he is rarely sick) - I told him to try and go the bathroom and gave him some gatorade - but he was nearly doubled over in pain...I went to take a shower, and while I was in there Mike informed me they were heading to the pediatrician, as he was literally in tears from the pain...
They checked him for a hernia, ruled out appendix etc... and finally determined (to his embarrasssment) it was just a bout of very painful gas - he had to take a gas-X every 6 hours and we were told to call back if he was still in pain the next day...he felt better in a few hours (not sure if he had any D or anything - he's going through an intensely private phase....I think it was some stomach bug, and that is how it affected him. I also forgot about his very low pain threshold (complains for a day or 2 after every orthodonture adjustment!) - but he was really miserable - hope Chan is feeling better soon!

Shirley,
Could it be constipation? It occurs more often in the summertime, especially if kiddies don't increase their fluid intake. I'm sure he would NOT want to discuss this topic with you but maybe you could at least try to get him to eat more fruits/veggies, and drink more fluids/eat more popsickles, etc.
I like the nickname "Chan" - don't think I've ever heard of another one.

Mary,
My recollection of orthodonture adjustments was definately 2-3 days of pain! Of course my mom always forgot and picked those nights to serve steak (our ortho was within walking distance of the jr. high). So unless orthodontists have gotten more gentle over the years, I know where he is coming from.
Hope he is back to 100% now.

I keep thinking it may be constipation. It seems most likely to me, but Polly, you are right, he doesn't want to discuss it. He won't eat hardly anything. So far toast and an ear of corn today and some milk. I cringe every time he asks for toast. He hasn't had pains as bad today as yesterday but he has just laid around all day.
Well, It will either get better or worse. If better...........GREAT..........If worse, I'll have to take him to the Doctor. In the meantime, I'll just do the best I can with his diet. I keep trying to feed him an apple but he isn't having it. He's not an easy kid to convince.

Glad you gies arrived safe- that is a long plane trip! Hope Chan perks up quickly- maybe a good nights sleep will help. At least it's gotta be cooler there than in Florida...or isn't it?
