Mixed Feelings

Post by cludwig »

Hi Friends,

I am starting entocort today. I am sad that I was not able to get my system under control using diet alone. I am still having multiple D episodes with undigested food. I am truely confused about how this deteriorated to this, especially because I have no gurgling as I did when I reacted before. I'll keep you posted as to how it's going. Thanks for your support...it is so very important to me.

Love,
Cristi

Hey Cristi!

Please do not feel that you have been a failure because you could not get the MC in control with diet alone. In fact, I applaud you for starting the Entocort. I would have done exactly the same thing in your situation.
Many here can attest to Entocort's efficacy and relative lack of side effects.

Everyone is different, as we always say. The degree of inflammation that you have undoubtedly needs a kick-start to begin the road to recovery. Good for you!

Love,

Polly

Yes, Cristi you are on a good road to regaining your health. Entocort was pretty new when I first started visiting this site (actually Sally's that morphed to this), and only a few were being given Entocort as an option. And many of the original members had to undergo months of diet to see results. All the while still feeling less than wonderful. Treatment for this disease has come a long way in the 4 years since I've been diagnosed with it.

As for the lack of gurgling...I can attest that every time I fall of the gf wagon, my reaction symptoms are different. In fact this time it is a crampy feelin and more pain with gas movement. But this is subsiding with more days gf (I'm into my 4th day again).

Keep us posted on how you do.

Cristi-

Don't feel bad at all! I took Asacol for nearly 2 years! It was around year 1 that I found the info on Dr. Fine and had testing done and decided to ditch gluten. It took me over a year to respond to diet - medication helped me tremendously during that time. Hey - whatever works to make you functional is all that matters   Everyone is different! I hope you experience rapid improvement, and continue to come here for support!!

I whole-heartedly concur with everything said!

You do what you need to...just feel better, not badly.

Hi Cristi,

I realize you're disappointed, but remember that all these treatment options are nothing more than tools to help you get your life back, and when one approach doesn't bring the resuolts you need, it's time to try something else.

As everyone has already mentioned, we're behind you 100%, no matter what type of treatment you choose to try. It's the results that count, not how you go about it.

Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks so much everyone,

I am going to visualize my colon healing. I am still going to be strict with my diet...the pork addition is going well and I got some tuna and salmon from the Vital Choice company and will work those into my diet as soon as I can. Thanks for the kind words...I am feeling more possitive about my decision this evening and I'll keep you all posted.

Cristi

Cristi,

I think a little run of Entecort makes alot of sense to cool down the inflammation, so that later when you're better, you can get your doc to ease you back down, and see if diet alone will do it.

Many people use steroid injections short term for sinus allergies, etc., when they get out of control (thankfully I don't seem to get those anymore either), even the systemic injectible type, which isn't nearly as safe as this one which mostly just stays within the lumen of the gut, and therefore, outside of the body proper.

I don't think many people have problems with those once-a year (for me it was, anyway) little injections, it's mostly the long term use, isn't it, Polly?

If you do really well, it may be tempting to cheat on the diet, particularly if you can get away with it a few times, but if you do, that could delay the length of time it would take you to work your way back off of it after a while.

Be SURE to work closely with your doc in terms of getting off any steroid type drug, even if it's mostly not a systemic one.

Yours, Luce

Cristi,

So glad your feeling better about this decision. I understand your concerns - I had very mixed feelings about weaning off Entocort.

I admire you so much, and all you other MCr's that were brave enough to try dieting without medications to see if you could regain control of your health. Now, that's gutsy IMHO and my hats off to you all!

I have confidence your going to be seeing some ( much needed) relief soon. Once your feeling better though, please don't be glutenious and do anything crazy like eat a pizza or something!!

We are here to support you and eagerly watch your progress with this medication.

Love,
Joanna

Dear Cristi,

When I had a baby with the help of drugs, (not with Lamaze only) I felt like such a failure!!!! So I understand, but please don't feel that way - getting the baby out is the only thing that matters in the end, and getting you out of the bathroom is the only thing that matters, too. I'm probably mixing metaphors and subjects and all, but I'm sure you know what I mean. I hope you feel better yesterday!!

Love, Marsha
