Vacation Next Thursday
Hi All,
Well leave it to us to pick the place to visit that is on the highest alert level. We were going to head out on 8/10 but we decided earlier this year to go later and have Labor Day off after we got back. I do hope things quiet down before Thursday. I am packing on Saturday and worried that we might be overweight due to taking very little carry on luggage.
We really want to enjoy England this year and the grandsons and family becuase it is becoming very expensive to do this every year and next year we want to just stay home and bird. It is hard not to go when we only see them once a year. We miss so much no matter how many times a week we talk on the phone. Thank God for the 4 cents a minute plan we have for Europe.
I probably will not be on much until we get back on 9/2 but want you to all know that I will miss you and am glad we are going to a destination where they actually know what gluten-free is all about. By the way, U.S. Air is giving me a GF meal but cannot do GF vegetarian - wonder why?
See you later and love you all and will miss you much. I did find a clear tote bag for coming back from the UK.
Love, Maggie

Maggie, I thought about you the first thing when I heard about the foiled disaster. I hope your trip goes well. I would think flying now would be pretty safe. Just don't take any breast milk with you!!
Have a wonderful time!!

Oh, WOW, Maggie!!
I don't blame you for being a bit nervous...not about terrorists but just the aggrevation of flying...........or rather getting from the curb to the plane.
I believe all electronics are banned in England. ANYTHING liquid or gel-like here.
I asked my sister how long she thought it might be before electronics are banned as carry-on here. She said she doesn't know but when they are she is looking for a different career. She flies at least twice a week now and has to take her cellphone and computer, etc. She has packing down to a science so she always just does carry-on.
Maggie, I hope your trip is eveything you hope and more. Have a wonderful time.
Love, Shirley

Hi Maggie,
We were there In Oct/Nov of 2005, and at St. Paul's the morning of the memorial service for the victoms of the subway bombing. King's Cross terminal had just reopened. There are no longer garbage cans on the streets, and therea are security guards at unusual places, like drug stores, and McDonalds entrances. It's no wonder prices have gone up on products of all kinds, because of the private security all types of businesses have hired. We stayed for a week near the Theatre District and Bristish Museum, a week near Lincoln, and a week in Kent near Canterbury. I'd love to stay there for a summer, except for it was so expensive!
I hope you have a wonderful time. If you have time to be on the net, write and tell us where you'll be,
Marsha

Morning Marsha,
We are visiting the family in Barrow-In-Furness which is in Cumbria County (the Lake District) in the North West part of England. About 90 miles from Scotland. It sits on a strip between the Irish Sea and the Moracombe Bay. Lovely area and cooler than a lot of England. We will also be visiting with friends from the U.S. and an English friend in Bath for 3 days. The U.S. Friends are leaving for the UK tomorrow and staying 3 weeks and visiting all over the country. They go at least twice a year and know the country like the back of their hand - definintely more than I can say. Navigating is always fun.

Hi Maggie,
How are you and the new job doing? More relaxed and comfortable, I hope!
Your trip sounds wonderful - wish I were going. And two babies to play with now - how lucky can you get?
On a similar note I just returned from Mn. where I took care of my nieces, aged 2 and 6, while their mom was at a convention. I had a ball. The 2 year old was precious, talking a blue streak.
I'll be looking forward to the news about your visit when you return!
Hi to Frank.
