New catagory--secondary food intolerances?
Hi All,
I've been thinking about this for a long time and wonder if we should have a label for foods that bother us but don't give us full blown intolerance reactions. I think it's confusing to newbies when they see some of our lists and don't understand the difference.
For me, some nuts and citrus are good examples. In small amounts I'm fine, but if I eat a lot of them or a few days in a row, I don't feel so good. Usually some D and nausea, but I don't get the aches and fatigue. I don't consider them an intolerance, but a be careful food.
Any ideas?
Love, Jean

Jean,
Good idea. That certainly applies to most of my food "sensitivities", (except for gluten).
So what are we going to call them? "Secondary food intolerances" includes the word intolerances. Of course, I suppose they are intolerances, at a lower level.

Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Cristi,
For me they were meat, (pork or chicken, uninjected, of course), potatoes, rice, squash, and green beans, (well cooked, of course). I seemed to do best if I limited the amounts of rice, green beans, and squash, but I could eat as much pork, chicken, and potatoes as I wanted.

Tex

How about Subsequent Secondary Sensitivities.
Citrus can also be a problem for me sometimes, but not always. Whatever secondary sensitivity issues I have are difficult to pin down because they don't seem to manifest themselves consistantly enough to put a finger on.
Cristi, meat and potatos were my only safe foods.
Love,
Joanna
