New doc

Post by JJ »

Hi all...just got home from my appt with my new GI...my other one retired. The new one was very pleasant, and I feel that he listened to me. I think he was amazed that I knew as much as I did about this dang CC. Anyway, I tried not to suck the air out of the room when he said his first treatment is to tell people to take fiber! As I recall, doesn't that make things worse???? I asked about gluten and he said that I could try the diet and if it works great, but he really doesn't feel that in my case it will do much good. He told me to continue using Entocort as needed...I am currently taking one pill every other day and that has done the trick...back to normal. He says I can play with the dosage, and if I want...try again to cut back to one pill every three days....he said he would see me in a year. He also said there is no evidence of harm caused by long term use of Entocort...I told him that I had a bone density test, and he didn't seem to think that was necessary. Hmmm....., He was interested in my personal problems with my job and realizes that stress can agrivate the symptoms....I mentioned Dr Fine, and he did agree that some people suffer from gluten sensitivity without having full blown celiac-sprue.

So...I will see how it goes....TTFN.....JJ

This is great news JJ! I'd venture to guess you know alot more than your new GI about MC. Isn't that an inpowering feeling? Just curious, are you dieting as well?

Joanna

Jill,

He sounds promising. At least he seems to have an open mind about treatments, and that's worth a lot.

Yes, you are correct, fiber in significant amounts can be a problem for many of us, especially insoluable fiber.

If you can get by with such a small dose of Entocort, that shouldn't cause any long term problems.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi...No, I am not dieting in any way shape or form...hahaha...can't eat grapes...skins are too tough! I still eat gluten...and have gained 7 pounds since March....when I found out that my job was being cut back, I drowned my sorrows with carbs and everything had gluten....very, very bad! I also have been eating more rice and pasta since I have two kids living with me, and one hates vegetables...it's been tough! But...I want to lose the 7 pounds before school starts...then work on losing more this fall. I feel better when I am on the Atkins diet...with me it's all or nothing...I cannot monitor the amount of carbs I eat..if I eat any, I crave more! I am a carb junkie!

So...I will try to cut out bread, noodles, sugar, etc....in doing so, I will also cut out some gluten along the way. I am feeling better emotionally, so hope the stress will fade. The $ crunch starts in September...sigh....but I am optimistic that I will be OK....TTFN...JJ

Jillster,

You sound pretty positive to me, and that's a very good thing

I like a doctor that has an open mind rather than one with a God-complex :doctor:

Glad to hear things are *running so smoothly*!

Hi Jill. Sounds like your new doc may be Ok. It makes all the difference if you feel you can talk to your doctor & know they at least understand what it is all about. Seems like you are doing well with the Entocort.

I have trouble with too much fibre as well. That is why mangoes upset me so much I think. They are pretty high in fibre & if I eat too much of anything in the salad line I am in trouble. Cole slau is a definate no no.

Hi Liz...isn't it the pits when we can't tolerate what we love? The grapes are so delicious here this time of year, and it kills me to have problems with them. Maybe I should try again now that I am more regulated...I think I will wait until I'm done teaching summer school...hahaha.

Take care...JJ

I know what you mean about the grapes. I am the same with mangoes & when they are in season the aroma nearly drives me mad. It is so sweet & delicious. When to go into a fruit shop it seems to pervade the whole area saying "buy me, I'm luscious" It   is almost more than I can stand.

Hi again...what gets me is that I buy grapes for the kids who live with me, so...I open the fridge and they stare at me  haha....I picked blackberries last night and ate some with a bit of Splenda and canned whipped cream...so far so good...they were so sweet and yummy and free! TTFN...JJ
