Medical Advice

Post by cludwig »

Hi Friends,

I've been reading the posts today and it seems like not many of us are having good weeks. I sure hope we all start to feel better.

I'm in the group not having a good week. I stopped taking my clonazapan last Mon. after tapering down to 1/16 of a pill. In hindsight I should have alternated days and gone off of it slower but just wanted to be rid of it since I knew it contained lactose and possibly soy. Even the at the most I was taking 3/4 of a 5 mg pill ....I had been on it for 9 mos. I have had a lot of problems sleeping and one night my hips and knees hurt so bad I thought they'd fall off. What I am having the most problem with is muscle cramping. I am having them all over my body but the worst ones are in my stomach and intestines...right over my belly button and a few inches above also...small intestines I assume. My theory is that the clonazapan relaxes the nerves in the brain and since there are many nerves in the digestive system..it was relaxing the knots there too. So, I tried Imodium Advanced as I think I remember people with my intolerences being able to take this medication. The Imodium gave me a couple of hours of relief...which sometimes that is the only thing that gets you through the day.

So, I am wondering if you guys get the painful cramps in your stomach and straight down the middle of your gut? Is that part of MC? It sounds more like IBS symptoms to me. If this is usual for MC...has anything worked to treat it...like antispasm meds?

I was also wondering about the ingredients in the Imodium Advanced...Do you think any of these would cause someone problems with my intolerences?

acesulfame K, cellulose, dibasic calcium phosphate, flavor, sodium starch glycolate , stearic, loperamide, and simethicone.

The regular Imodium contains....loperamide, colloidal silicon dioxide, D&C yellow #10, dibasic calcium phosphate, FD&C blue no.1, magnesium stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose.

Any advice you can send my way would be great.

Love,
Cristi

Hi Cristi,

Of course, since we're not doctors, we can't give you any medical advice, but we can tell you about our experiences, and what works or doesn't work for us.

The symptoms you describe sound like a severe food intolerance reaction to something. I wish we could figure out what it is being caused by.

Yes, the pain you describe sounds a lot like what I experienced during my recovery. Sometimes the pain was steady, and sometimes it came in waves, and when it peaked, at times it seemed close to unbearable. At first, I wondered why the pain was so high up, since I thought that the colon was supposed to be the source of the problem, but I finally realized what you have pointed out, that my small intestine was a big part of the problem. Often I had migraines along with the gut pain, and when I would take tylenol for the migraines, it seemed to help a bit to reduce the gut pain, also.

I also had a lot of cramps in my calf muscles, and in my feet. I suppose they may be caused to some extent by chemical imbalances, due to malabsorption problems.

I don't have a list in front of me at the moment, but I don't see anything on that ingredient that should clash with your listed intolerances. There are several derivatives of corn in that list, though.

I hope your pain lets up soon. It can really make life miserable.

Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
