OK - HELP - Dr. wants to try this......
I called and explained the symptoms to him regarding the allergies (although dry, eyes are goopy and itching, sinus drainage, coughing from the drainage).
He prescribed the following: Singulair and Z-Pak!!!!!!!!
What's up with that!? I forget whether this antibiotic helps but why prescribe an antibiotic when it is allergies?
I have just seen the optomitrist so I know it is not an infection........... I relayed that to the doctor also.
Doctor is VERY MUCH aware of the MC issue.............
HELPPPPPPPPP (this is how I feel - beat my head against the wall)

hmmm
I would be VERY opposed to taking an antibiotic needlessly. Z-pak is one of the best and most tame antibiotics available, made mostly for kids, originally, it became popular because of the 5 day dose, (and yet it works for a full 10 days) and because of the SMALL pill size, which is nice, but it's needless in this situation! I guess I would call him back and tell him as much.. ask him WHY, does he think you have an infection?
Do you have green or yellow sputum when coughing (productive cough)? Do you have a fever? Are your eyes crusted over? I just don't get it..
The Singulair is good.. my son used to take that to help control his asthma symptoms. It's a good PREVENTATIVE measure. Doesn't help acute attacks of allergies but a good overall preventative product. Not sure about adult doseage but the kids one is chewable which is pretty sweet.

Hey Christine!
My eyes are dry (this is normal for me - I have to use a special drop in them given by my eye doc.) and itching/burning but have yellow slime in them. I am coughing and dry/hoarse from the sinus drainage. Maybe he is trying to head off a sinus INFECTION before it goes into full force. I do tend to go from something small to something full blown if I don't catch it in time. (Autoimmune stuff ya know).
I have not tried Singulair before. He said to give it a few days, it won't work right away. It is becoming very dificult to work with my eyes hurting so much. I am on the puter all day or writing and reading.
Thanks for the info. Maybe this further info will shed some light on some things. Who knows - all I know is I feel crappy and want to go to bed! (sigh - no such luck until after 4:00 p.m.)
PS - not sleeping worth a crap at night either - awake off and on all night long - this is unusual for me also! (strange things with me lately).
Talk to ya later.

ick
that sounds horrible :(
With the eye slime.. I guess that'd be MY concern.. conjunctivitis maybe, but usually they give you drops for this. I suppose he might be aware of some infections going around in the community and trying to head it off.. you may just want to discuss this with him.. Personally I would try the singulair a few days, see if it helps, and take a decongestant, like sudafed... but you should maybe call him, and discuss this, since you're having problems with your eyes hurting.. I've never had that problem so I can't relate :(

The Z pack is a good antibiotic, but I must agree, If you have no infection why would you want to take it. I have taken the singular when I have had a sinus infection along with the Z pack, I had no ill effects with Singular and it seemed to help my allergies. Love Oma
May I be more compassionate and loving than yeterday*and be able to spot the idiots in advance
