FDA OKs bacteria-eating virus to treat meat
"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha
Hmmmmm. Very interesting. Phages can work both ways. For example, while most of the known types kill bacteria, there is a phage which can turn the harmless Vibrio bacteria strain into Vibrio cholerae, which, of course, results in cholera.
So all 300,000,000 of us are going to be ingesting these viruses, in order to try to prevent approximately 0.0008% of the population from becoming ill with listeria. That seems like kind of undesirable odds, doesn't it?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I saw this article too and wrote to the company to see if any of our intolerances will be in the virus mixture. Logic says that the bacteria will be grown on meat, but who knows!
Hopefully, this will have to be labeled. But, meat doesn't have to follow the same labeling rules as other food, so we could be in trouble.
I'll let you know if I hear from the company.
Love, Jean

Be kind to everyone, because you never know what battles they are fighting.
Here's the email I got from the company, I like the Dr.!
Dear Dr. Meske,
This is all natural product that contains six bacteriophages that have been isolated from the environment. The phages have not been altered or manipulated in any way. The preparation is specifically targeted against L. monocytogenes – one of the deadliest foodborne bacteria that kill approximately 500 people each year in the USA alone. The product will not otherwise alter the general composition of the foods, and it has no adverse organoleptic changes (i.e., it does not alter taste, odor or color of treated foods). The product will have no effect on food shelf life (i.e., it will not extend the shelf life of treated foods).
The product is all natural, and no media of animal origin has been used during its preparation. In addition, no known, potentially allergenic substances (wheat, milk, soy, etc.) have been added to/mixed with the product.
I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if there is anything else I can do to better explain our approach and technology.
Thanks for your interest in our company and in our phage-based products.
Sincerely,
Sandro Sulakvelidze
