Mike,
This is a little off-topic, but we used to have an old doctor on the radio here with lots of experience, and he would answer questions about once a week from callers to his live radio program.
Apparently a woman had called in who was having difficulty getting her calories low enough to loose any weight.
The old doc gave an example of one woman he had had as a patient whom he believed was telling the truth. She wasn't even burning up 500 calories a day, as they discovered! Obviously, something was wrong with her metabolism!
I'm sure I burn up lots more than that a day, but even so, if I ate all the carbs that the pyrimid diet recommends, I'd never be able to comsume enough fruits and vegetables, and probably not meat either. To me, it just doesn't add up.
I'll need to re-read your calculations when I'm a bit more awake, Mike. Again, these are interesting comments! Thanks.
Yours, Luce

Hi Katy
I only eat 3 oz. of steak, but it depends on the person. I have cut way back on my beef comsumption and if I eat more, I get an upset stomach and I know beef is one of the hardest meats to digest.
4 oz. is pretty much the acceptable amount in most diets. In calorie counting, it's 100g per ounce.
