Understanding the Genetics of Gluten Sensitivity

Post by mle_ii »

Understanding the Genetics of Gluten Sensitivity by Dr. Scot Lewey
http://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1359

Pertaining even more to us from that article:
Dr. Fine has also noted some other associations of the DQ patterns with microscopic or collagenous colitis, neurologic manifestations of gluten sensitivity and dermatitis herpetiformis, which has been one of the gluten sensitive conditions noted to be, at times, occurring in DQ2, DQ8 negative individuals.
Boy, I can't wait til he finally publishes his stuff. I really want to read it.

Wow, take a look at this one:
http://ezinearticles.com/?Pollen-Allerg ... &id=281279
For example, ragweed allergy commonly causes an oral or gut reaction after eating melons or bananas but usually not other foods.
Anyone here with ragwood alergy that reacts in this way to bananas or melons?

Mike,

Veeeeeeeeeerrrrrrry interesting articles. Thanks for posting those. This seems to be one more GI doc who knows what he's doing.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Dear Mike,

I can't tell you for sure, but I can't eat melons or bananas: bananas give me D if I eat too much, and melons burn my throat. I know I have allergies to some airborne trees and other things, but the report is at home in AZ. So I'll remember to dig it out and get back to you after the 15th.

Thanks for the research.

Me too! Gee Wiz, I missed reading this thread awhile back and stumbled upon some Lewey articles today. This Dr. is quite in the know isn't he?

From this link Mike gave, check out his article on Food Specific Elimination Diet for Chronic Diseases- he's intoducing a neopaleo diet!?? Mentions he suggests Paleo Diets for many of his patients...

Many of his articles are informative and easy reading with good links. Also, his blogs worth following.

Thanks Mike!

Love,
Joanna

Joanna,

Thanks for bringing this topic up again. I didn't have time to review much of this when it was first presented. There are a bunch of very good articles there. Thanks again for finding this, Mike.

For example, Dr. Lewey's discussion of a program based on what he calls a "Neopaleo specific diet", for eliminating and tracking down food intolerances, is very, very interesting, (and quite appropriate, of course).

Hey Mike!

Thanks for sharing this. I also missed it the first time, so thanks to Joanna for rediscovering it.

I feel so encouraged as more and more docs become "in the know", although it seems to be a very slow proceess. I wish he were my doc too.

Love,

Polly

And take a look at this article by Dr Lewey. Related to what I found with the bifidobacteria. This is pretty much a synopsis of what I think is happening.

Mike,

Makes sense to me.

Are you aware that gut colonization with bifidobacteria during the first year of life may be a key link to preventing allergies later in life?

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... t=Abstract

I think that's a very profound effect. Also, are you aware that they may actually prevent some forms of tumor growth?

Amazing

IMHO isn’t this exactly the science that Elaine Gottshall along with help from Dr Haas and other doctors explained in her book “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” first published in the early nineties.

Her science certainly lead me in the right direction.

It was my first research and lead me very early on to a grain free diet. Despite the recommendation to eat yogurt and legumes that I already new were big problems her basic ideas eventually morphed to the Paleo diet or better said the NeoPaleo diet.

It’s pretty interesting to see that Doctors feel that they are coming up with new ideas when in reality they have been around for quite a while in a book that can be found in every health food store I walk into.

Of course getting people to follow the diet is an even bigger hope than the hope of doctors understanding it.
