Maine

Hi All,

Already planning for 2007 and if anyone can give me good information on good places to just relax, bird and enjoy the locals in Maine please either e-mail me directly or post here. We are looking at Bar Harbor and Bath right now but want to have some real data. Waiting for Maine information from the tourist bureau.

Thanks, Maggie

Bar Harbor is supposed to be very nice. Right next to Acadia National Park.

I've been through bath...I think I stayed in a campground there once called Puddleduck! It was fun.

If you are looking for real Mainers and trying to avoid big crowds avoid anything from Kittery to Portland along the coast. Very busy with summer beach tourists.

Head a little farther north and on the border of Maine and New Brunswick is Campobello (a?)... FDR's retreat. There is also a salmon farm there that my parents found interesting, although I suppose that doesn' t appeal to a vegan.

A lot of Maine is wilderness/owned by paper companies.

How fun to be planning next year's rest and relaxation already!

Maggie --we were to Maine and in the area which Katy mentioned---but for us was fine---

WE had a nice motel----and we hit a nice time of the year---was October and the weather was perfect----We had just picked up and had no idea where we were going to stop---until we saw a town called OGUNQUIT ( I think thats the spelling) and when we pulled in ---I thought I was going to see Jessica Fletcher coming out  to solve a mystery--I luve her show!!!
The place was so quaint---

Glad to see U home and sorry U had all that trouble coming home---but thats what one never knows with airlines--

We stayed in Rockford, Maine for a week once. I absolutely loved it. It's about halfway up the coast of Maine.

What I would advise (if you have the time) is to make a visit to Monhegan Island. You have to take a ferry from Rockford (I believe). We were only able to go for 4 hours and we have always wanted to go back there. You can go for the day (day trips were filled the day we went), half day, and there is also an old inn that you can stay in for longer visits. I don't know how far ahead you have to make your reservations (at the inn), but I suspect that if you are interested you should look into it soon.

I'm sure you could look into it on the "net".
