Anyone try Coenzyme Q10?

Post by mle_ii »

Some research I've done seems to point to this being a good thing to supplement with those having inflamation.

I just started taking it to see how it helps me, though since my case is mild perhaps it woun't make a lot of difference.

I took whatever dosage was on the bottle.. it was almost 4 years ago.. don't know how long I took it. If the D got worse I am sure I didn't take it very long...

Mike,

I know that there was some research with Parkinson's patients years ago that showed success.
I believe Co-Q-10 is naturally occurring in the body, isn't it?

I think it's in the mitochondria and affects ATP which means it has to do with providing energy to every cell in the body.

I have taken it, but can't remember what I observed at that time. We have such a hectic schedule around here with Mom that I'm doing well to get down her regular meds, and B-12, B-6, folate, and Vit D, etc. If I were to give her any more, she'd probably start to rebel! Ha!

When I took it, I was just trying to get my energy level up years ago, along with some other antioxidants.
Of course, then, I had no idea WHY my energy level was so low. Guess I do now!

Yours, Luce

I don't doubt that it could help, but I tried it and it gave me D. Kind of a catch-22 . . . .

Luce, yes, this occurs naturally in our bodies. It's created via a process and requires quite a few different vitamins as part of this process. Supposedly this amino acid is created less and less as one gets older and thus leads to oxidative diseases as one gets older. Given that Colitis can be induced by this oxidative process it made me wonder if this supplement would help those who need it. From the list of who has tried it, perhaps not. I also wondered that since those with MC have bowels that move faster than normal folks that this supplement might be needed since our bodies would have less time to absorb the needed vitamins or to get the natural sources of Q10 in our diets.

I came across a few studies that showed that Q10 helped slow down this oxidation in the bowel and helped to clear up the colitis. Also saw that it helped other oxidative diseases, like those of the blood system for example.

It is rather strange that it didn't help. Though one article said that it seemed to take more supplements in some folks due to malabsorbtion issues. And would also be depleted in those folks who have cronic oxidative diseases, like perhaps some forms of colitis. Therefore they need a lot more than "normal" folks.

Marsha, seems rather strange that it gave you D. Perhaps the inactive ingredients of the pills you took gave you problems. As this amino acid is ingested via food and is created by our own bodies.

I think that I need to read more about this.

Also, one of the blood tests that I had sent off tests for this, it'll be interesting to see what it says when I get it back along with the other things it tests for. Here's what it tests for:

Thanks for the info,
Mike
